Builder made the fridge recess using bricks. Fridge did not fit in the recess since there was no clearance added to the dimensions given. When they complained, builder said it was their fault since they were the ones who gave the dimensions, and builder did nothing to fix the problem Prelim Contract to Build - 31/07/2011 Building contract and Plans - 21 Sept 2011 Pre-start - 13 Oct 2011 Settlement - 14 Oct 2011 Earthworks - 5 Dec 2011 SLABBED - 13 Dec 2011 Roof Framed -7 Mar12 Re: Things you forget - summary page 20 431Mar 12, 2012 11:00 pm kenny_geee I asked our saleman who we're in contract talks with about building our new home, whether we could move the manhole from the laundry into the garage. He said they can't do that because of 'health and safety reasons'?? Is there any way i can persuade them to move it? We had ours moved to the garage but we had to pay the variation Prelim Contract to Build - 31/07/2011 Building contract and Plans - 21 Sept 2011 Pre-start - 13 Oct 2011 Settlement - 14 Oct 2011 Earthworks - 5 Dec 2011 SLABBED - 13 Dec 2011 Roof Framed -7 Mar12 Re: Things you forget - summary page 20 432Mar 16, 2012 1:22 pm "Skylights are great for kitchens, dark hallways and bathrooms. I wouldn’t put them in the bedrooms." Just saw this and thought I'd mention that we had a skylight installed in our bedroom. It's a Solatube Skylight and we chose to have the optional dimmer switch, which means we can turn off the 'light' when ever we want! 1 year later and I'm still always trying to turn the light off when I walk out the room. I live in Brisbane, so I got ours from their Dealer here. http://www.brisbaneskylights.com.au/solatube-skylights. But I'm pretty sure they have dealers all over the country. Hope that helps someone. Lara Re: Things you forget - summary page 20 433Mar 18, 2012 12:32 am We didn't realise a letter box was not included the builder's quote until the end of the construction. Now we need to install one ourselves. Make sure you double check and triple check the inclusion list. Maybe give it to your friends, families who just had their houses built to re-check for you too before you sign. Easier said that done I know but this works for us Dean This is what we did, I'd look over it, he'd look over it, we'd look over it and repeat... I picked up things that he didn't think of, like adding a broom part to our laundry cupboard, there were only shelves, no room for ironing board, broom, mop! A simple variation that cost nothing to change, but peace of mind when you want a tidy home. Another thing my husband didn't pick up, our laundry door opened up onto our laundry cupboard, so to access the cupboard, you'd have to shut yourself into the laundry. We have had this changed to a cavity slider, with a lovely translucent door. I also find this more practical being a cat owner and having a litter tray in the laundry, you can have the sliding door ajar without everyone being able to see the litter tray, but the cat can come and go as he pleases. (Can you tell, the cat rules the house!) Re: Things you forget 438Mar 27, 2012 3:05 pm take2 Power point in your kitchen island bench, glad I remembered it gets used all the time. Batterns in the ceiling for ceiling fans and heavy pendant lighting. Cheers Lou great idea but if you had a flat bench without a return to hide it - where would you put it Re: Things you forget - summary page 20 439Mar 27, 2012 8:05 pm One thing we have just realized is with our fridge space which is in the pantry our fridge door opens the wrong way! So you will have to be in the pantry to get anything out of the fridge and not just simply open the door and put it straight on the bench I know you can get fridges with doors that open both ways, or french doors, and luckily our fridge is 12 years old so we will need a new one sooner or later, so note to self when building a plan that hides the fridge in the pantry make sure your fridge door opens the right way! Our floor plans are in my blog if that doesn't make sense. http://metriconcedar32.blogspot.com.au/ My building blog is here: http://metriconcedar32.blogspot.com.au Re: Things you forget - summary page 20 440Mar 28, 2012 5:09 am Don't forget to put a light & exhaust fan in the pantry( if it's a walkin) if there is no window. Also, a light in the roof cavity incase you ever need to get in there. Another one is if you have any storage area under the stairs, it's very handy to have a light in there as well. Depends what you're current inclusions are, but we're not including wardrobes and will just use second hand ones until we can save later on to get them built.
