Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 14, 2012 7:12 pm I've noticed doors and locks are quite cheap and Bunnings. Obviously I can't install these after handover, does anyone know if I can supply my own products for the build, or select items not on their 'optional upgrade' range? Re: PRESTART - Can you choose products not in their range?? 3Jul 14, 2012 9:45 pm thats true bash. i saw the corinthian doors we wanted to upgrade to in the builders range in bunnings - unstained or anything for $50 or $55. and to upgrade to the same door, our builder charged only $60 and that is painted. so not worth buying it later and having to do it all ourselves. turtle - if you have a handy hubby/friend/relly, then changing things after handover is not hard. even better if you have a sparky or trady as one of the above, would make it even easier. Re: PRESTART - Can you choose products not in their range?? 4Jul 15, 2012 12:34 pm agree with the above - really depends on your builder. When we were looking to sign with Masterton we were told absolutely no to this sort of owner supply of stuff. We ended up with Zen Homes where we can supply anything we want, so depends on who you sign up with. In terms of price differential, sometimes builders still get stuff cheaper than we can at retail prices (I think builders discount is around 10%). But not always. We are supplying a whole range of things ourselves such as fans, certain lights, gas heater, Cat6 cabling (builder installs), timber floors etc. SunshineT's Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34585 Designs start: 4/12/09 DA: 5/7/11 Demo: 22/12/11 Slab: 24/2/12 Keys: 31/8/12 Re: PRESTART - Can you choose products not in their range?? 5Jul 26, 2012 7:12 pm Yep they said absolutely not. So frustrating when you know you can get it cheap but can't even provide them. On the bright side, my builders quotes were quite reasonable.
