Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Merlot with Terrazza - Beechwood (Newcastle) 61Oct 15, 2012 12:45 pm and now I'm in love with your floor!! We are going bamboo throughout, but if I had an extra $15000 I'd love timber- is that blackbutt? Build Again I have a thread, feel free to read! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=57912 Re: Merlot with Terrazza - Beechwood (Newcastle) 62Oct 15, 2012 1:13 pm Thank you! It is not real timber though It is timber laminate: Quickstep in Colonial Blackbutt from Carpet Court. Much cheaper than real timber but still looks and feels great Building Merlot w/Terrazza (Beechwood) Contracts signed Dec 2011 --> Keys Aug 2012 Current stage: Complete! Hubby thought it was too light to match with our timber furniture, but I loved it!! It looks fantastic! I really hope I like my bamboo when it's all laid or I'll wish I pushed for the blackbutt now I've seen it laid!! We are now also going to block the 2nd entry to the theatre & leave as an open shelf inside the theatre. We are planning to building the Verdelho 5 & wanted more storage space so this worked out perfectly. I also love your separate door for the ensuite, did you have to compromise on the vanity size? Re: Merlot with Terrazza - Beechwood (Newcastle) 68Feb 15, 2013 8:17 am I'm glad our thread has helped you out! I found it really great looking through this forum for ideas so I'm glad I was able to help someone else too! I love that big pantry, it was a really great idea. We've now got a large car also and I have to say adding the extra space in the garage has really helped as well. We made ours 6x6; it doesn't seem like much extra but it really helps. Also the single door instead of the two separate garage doors is so much easier when you have one big car and one small car! I love your idea of making one of the theatre entry ways into storage! Great idea! I do like the light I get on the kitchen side from the theatre though, I'm not sure which entry you will close off but it might stop the light from coming through and as the kitchen is in the middle it doesn't get a lot of light with the laundry door closed. Something to think about. I've thought about whether or not we might put in a skylight in the kitchen later so that is also something to think about. I'm not sure how similar the Verdelho and Merlot are that you might feel the same... We've been living in our house just over 5 months now and haven't regretted any of our decisions so far so that is lucky I think for our first time! We've been living in our house just over 5 months now and haven't regretted any of our decisions so far so that is lucky I think for our first time! Thanks Again NovaVista, Our council requires that our garage be 6x6m, but it is a great idea especially since we have a 4x4 & a medium car. We are also getting pricing on the 3rd garage option which will also address our issue of a 2nd facade as we are on a corner block. The Merlot & Verdelho are very similar except you get more of a separate rumpus/lounge room on the back. Our Terrazza is in the place of your rumpus & the kitchen/family area is wider in place of your terrazza. Were you happy with the choices available for bricks, tiles, kitchen etc? Re: Merlot with Terrazza - Beechwood (Newcastle) 70Mar 19, 2013 2:36 pm Sorry for the slow reply!I don't get on here much these days. We were happy with the selections available. We chose bricks within the standard range, from the Whitsunday range (although ours are discontinued now) and there was plenty to choose from for tiles at Tile Direct and the salesman was very helpful when we did our selection, but you couldn't upgrade to a glass splashback like we originally wanted. I'm glad we didn't though as I love the tiles we have now. We upgraded all of the kitchen and bathroom cabinetry to the thermotech gloss which was also well worth it. Our colour scheme is very "safe" - mostly whites with the benchtop in a browny colour (called stipple seal I think) which we also got in diamond gloss and then our feature tiles and splash back are blue and blue/green, so we weren't after anything unique which helped us stay within the standard range I guess. We have had plenty of people come through our home and say it feels comfortable, clean and warm rather than clinical and display home like which I was worried about with all the white, but with the few areas of colour and our furniture it seems to have worked out really well. There are some things where the standard range is limited like the window/door frames, door furniture, bath tub, but in some cases you could pay a little extra and have a wider variety. I hope this helps and wasn't too late! Building Merlot w/Terrazza (Beechwood) Contracts signed Dec 2011 --> Keys Aug 2012 Current stage: Complete!
