Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 10, 2012 10:41 am We built in Melbourne (south morang) in 2009 and were pretty happy with the result, built a Rowland 35 with Porter Davis. no complaints about the builder. Anyway, we have moved to the country (Euroa, north-east Victoria) for work reasons and are in the process of selling our house in Melbourne. We were considering buying established but couldnt find anything suitable (everything seems to be 3 bedroom) so we are about to embark on our second build in three years. We have found a nice sized block (1150m2) with all town services connected and have paid a deposit to build with DFH from their Shepparton office. Has anyone built through this office? So far the service has been first class. We did learn a few lessons from our previous build, the main one being make sure we have a large master bedroom- the Rowland has plenty of rooms (5 bed/2 studies) but for a house that size it had a very small master bedroom and relatively small main living area. This feedback was reinforced by potential buyers so we won't make that mistake again. With that in mind we selected the Macedon 292 house design with DFH but modified it by deleting the front living room (which we would never have used) making our master bedroom much bigger (we actually put the Hartley master bedroom/wirs/ensuite on) and the result is a hybrid house. It also allowed us to make bedroom 2 slightly larger, as well as the bathroom and we also added more linen cupboards and birs to beds 2 and 3- you can never have enough storage. The DFH staff was extremely helpful and suggested some of these changes to ensure the house met our requirements and maximized the orientation of our block. We will be creating a new blog and will post floor plan soon. Built in now city 2009, now moving to the country to embark on another build.
