We did exactly that!! About 10 years ago. Well, different company, Rivergum Homes in SA, and had such a room, complete with kitchenette and small bathroom, in our back yard, started off as a detached rumpus room, but then got taken over by then teenage son until he moved out of home last week. Of course, you do have to have a large back yard for this to be possible but our current block is very large, over 1000 m2. Re: Another Room 4Mar 18, 2008 1:49 pm Excellent for teenagers rooms…. Although I didn’t see any wall studs???
May not be strong enough for the teenage temper tantrums!!! Of course you could always get a LONG chain and tie around the room and doors, complete with padlock Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Another Room 5Mar 18, 2008 1:51 pm Helyn Quote: DS when he becomes a teenager!! Had reverse cycle air-con in there which did get used a lot, much more so than heaters/coolers in main house. We also installed a pergola to front part which had the large sliding glass door, that did help with sun glare. Re: Another Room 9Mar 18, 2008 2:03 pm Compared to building this sort of thing yourself….were they cheap to buy?
Reading your last post, I was designing like crazy in my head with 2 of these joined together under a pergola! Naaaa, kids would never leave home….too cosy! Ours was actually assembled on site rather than transported ready made, but could now be removed whole, it was 10 years ago and I cannot remember cost. Not sure of size but big enough to easily fit queen size bed, small kitchen suite, couch, tall boy (furniture that is, not the son ), TV unit, coffee table and fridge, plus bathroom and single wall kitchenette down one end.
