Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 30, 2012 2:30 pm Hi Guys! My boyfriend and I are building a house in Flinders, NSW. We have finalised the plans and are now at the stage where we are picking colours. We are building a harmony with Allworth. We really want to have a surfmist colourbond roof and dark bricks. The garage door will also be surfmist and window frames will be white. Gutters will most probably be a light to medium grey. We really loved Austral blackstone bricks. But they are an upgrade with Allworth and will cost more than we are willinging to pay. I have just spent all day looking at bricks and researching them on this forum. We are looking for black/grey coloured dark bricks either by PHG, Boral or Austral that are not too expensive. We are still willing to pay a bit to upgrade but probably only 2-3 grand. At the same time we have read horror stories about the paint on bricks coming off and exposing the brick underneath. Has anyone built with a dark brick in which this problem was kept to a minimum? Pictures would be much appreciated!! Thanks so much in advance!!!! Re: Dark bricks-Any suggestions? 2Jun 30, 2012 6:19 pm Claire we have chosen boral mist ( light grey )and domino( blackish) They are both painted. I've got pics of them on my thread. Take a look and judge for yourself. They were only delivered yesterday so don't know about chipping etc but I can see how it will be a problem. Re: Dark bricks-Any suggestions? 3Jun 30, 2012 8:30 pm We went boral Blackheath and off white mortar. Really happy with them. Re: Dark bricks-Any suggestions? 4Jun 30, 2012 9:44 pm PGH Expresso & Chocolatto if you are OK with the glazed face bricks.... I know they are dark and were part of the range I could get with my Allworth design Re: Dark bricks-Any suggestions? 5Jun 30, 2012 10:04 pm Claire_ - we used PGH espresso. Look great. Unfortunately the brick cleaner was a little hard on them so need a few changed as its a painted finish. Have a look at my blog. Re: Dark bricks-Any suggestions? 6Jul 01, 2012 10:54 am We were considering surfmist and PGH truffle. No display homes in truffle yet, so its hard to judge, but it looks the smoothest for the least money at this point. Re: Dark bricks-Any suggestions? 7Jul 01, 2012 3:11 pm Oh, oh, Claire check out Potupays build thread they have used urban one pepper and it is gorgeous. Not sure if they are expensive or not but check out their thread. Re: Dark bricks-Any suggestions? 8Jul 01, 2012 5:14 pm Thanks so much for your suggestions guys! They are so helpful! We particularly like Pgh espresso, so we will have to wait for the quote to come back. Meanwhile we will have a look at your other suggestions. thanks again!
