Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 26, 2012 3:34 pm Hi all I am building a double storey house and was trying to decide on sliding or awning windows in the bathroom and ensuite. The windows sit on the bath and spa hobs in these rooms. I was trying to determine which windows are the safest option as well as providing enough air flow. Will sliding windows be restricted to a 100mm opening? Will awning windows have restricted opening IE: 100mm and will they provide enough air? I think if awning are restricted they would not be useful. What are your thoughts? Regards Stevcm Re: 1st floor windows in double storey 2Jun 26, 2012 5:48 pm Hi, I find awning windows a waste of time as far as airflow is concerned because they don’t open very far. Sliding Windows will give you 50% airflow; you can lock the sliding part of the window into place with a window lock and leave it open a little for airflow. My recommendation would be louvre windows. 100% airflow if you want or order them as a two way operation by having the top 2 or 3 louvres open during the day while the rest of the louvres can be closed for security. Re: 1st floor windows in double storey 4Jun 28, 2012 12:20 am Airflow is the result of pressure differences, so similar size opening result in similar air flow. It matters not whether the opening is vertical or horizontal... (consider feeling a draught, when you can't even see the opening that it comes from). Yes, all openings are restricted on the 1st floor. Both windows are similar with regard to safety, provided the anti-lift blocks are fitted to the sliding window. With louvres, make sure the clips that hold the glass are secure. Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy.
