Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 26, 2012 10:20 am Just wondering what people think about upgrading all the benchtops to ceaserstone instead of laminate? I know most display homes just have stone in the kitchen but we were thinking it might be nice to upgrade everywhere for a longer lasting effect. I'm in two minds and can't decide! One the one hand, laminate comes in a much greater variety so we can make it more of a feature and have the square china sinks set in which will look nice, but on the other hand I am worried about the laminate getting worn and damaged quite quickly. Anyone have an opinion? Thanks Emma Building the Nautilus with Dale Alcock follow my thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58854&p=909574#p909574 14/8/12 Pre-start! Re: Ceaserstone vs laminate to bathrooms scullary & laundry? 2Jun 26, 2012 10:30 am I have an opinion ! Nothing to back it up though We have upgraded all our benchtops to Ceaserstone. Our kitchen was upgraded as part of a kitchen upgrade pack. We loved the look of it in the bathrooms so we added it in the bathooms too. Then I didn't want an odd-room-out so we upgraded the laundry as well. It was really just an aesthetic thing for us. I agree with not having an odd room as we had though about leaving the laundry but then I would always regret it I think! We have a large laundry with a fair amount of bench space. If I had endless money we would've done stone in the laundry too but can't have everything I want!!!!! If you have the money to upgrade, I say go for it. If not, I don't think it matters to have an odd one out. Re: Ceaserstone vs laminate to bathrooms scullary & laundry? 6Jun 26, 2012 12:58 pm We also have stone everywhere but the laundry with the only reason being the builder already provided stone to kitchen, pantry and bathrooms but we have upgraded our laundry to have a bench going the full width of a wall and with all the other stuff we wanted to upgrade felt that compared to other things it wasn't that important to me and it wasn't something I would regret. If you can afford it and you think you'll regret it later than go for it. Re: Ceaserstone vs laminate to bathrooms scullary & laundry? 7Jun 26, 2012 1:48 pm We upgraded to Caeserstone for our Kitchen and Bathrooms but didnt bother with the laundry either. For us there were other things more important to make sure we included but if its important to you then you go for it I think. I will get the full quotes from the builder and go from there. If we can afford the whole lot we will - makes sense now rather than later!! Re: Ceaserstone vs laminate to bathrooms scullary & laundry? 9Jun 26, 2012 2:33 pm We have stone in the kitchen, butlers pantry and powder room only. I didn't want it in the main bathroom or the ensuite bathrooms (have lived with both before) as I always seem to be in a rush in the mornings doing hair/make-up and drop things and found the laminate was more forgiving. We didn't bother with the laundry either as it is quite large and as others have said had to prioritise but if I had endless $$, I would have done the laundry in stone. Re: Ceaserstone vs laminate to bathrooms scullary & laundry? 10Jun 26, 2012 2:34 pm +1 for stone everywhere apart from the laundry. We had thought about stone in the laundry, but it was one of those areas that lost out $$ wise. If it were a laundry that could be seen from the kitchen, we may have been more inclided to upgrade to stone. If we rennovate, the first thing being ripped out will be the laundry and it will be redone to look like a swanky show home laundry with all the overhead cabinets etc. We didnt do this off the bat because it was way too expensive to do through the builder. Re-doing the laundry after handover may be something you may want to consider if you want extra cabinets etc, just make sure the plumbing is in the right place. Re: Ceaserstone vs laminate to bathrooms scullary & laundry? 11Jun 26, 2012 2:53 pm We have stone everywhere as it was a standard inclusion, not sure I would get it in the laundry if it wasn't included mainly because of cost, our laundry bench is 3m so assume if it wasn't included it would be fairly expensive as an upgrade Ceaserstone vs laminate to bathrooms scullary & laundry????? 12Jun 26, 2012 9:11 pm We have opted for stone everywhere. We actually asked for laminate in ensuite and bathroom but the builder priced stone and it was all within budget so we kept it. We are thinking of going to laminate in laundry and reuse that money for the study nook. We may also reduce to 20mm for vanities depending on how much it mighty save.
