Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 23, 2012 4:05 pm Hi Guys, I'm having the Engineering completed on my house plans as we speak. I am an owner building about to embark on building my first home. There are so many different ideas for making homes smart and efficient these days and you just get lost browsing random websites for these ideas. I thought I might ask on here about what are the norms now for electrical infrastructure these days. I'm an electrical engineer and will be doing all my own wiring. I want to have the infrastructure in place so I have the flexibility later on down the track, to install any system I want (without having to get back inside the walls and run new cabling). I have no idea about the latest gizmos and gadgets out there, maybe someone has a good website for me to read? I think as a starting point and what I plan to do is install CAT5 cable (blue network cabling) into every room. Re: Building a new house - new home ideas 2Jun 23, 2012 4:44 pm I definitely can't answer the question with any authority! The ethernet cable is probably good for future addition of "stuff", however if you're not sure what needs to be plugged into it I kind-of wonder how likely you are to guess where the plugs should go? You will need ethernet connections for stuff like amplifiers, TV's, possibly 'fridges and the like, as well as internet of course; so a good chunk of it won't be wasted. Although a lot of people who install Cat5 reckon they still just end-up using wireless for computers & 'phones. Another thing I've heard of is a C-Bus system. Now I think that's actually a brand-name for an entire home-automation infrastructure made by Clipsal; there are probably others. It's a complete "home automation system", and links stuff like light switches & heating controls & even motors for louvres and curtains to a central controller so things can open/close/activate remotely or on a timer. Pretty sure it uses ethernet. From what I've seen it's very proprietary though, and I suspect you'd be paying heaps for each part of it; eg. lightswitches are no longer just a simple contact, they become a networked programmable device. your new kitchen and living area looks great and we need accurate dimensions to be specific but with the thickness of the brick column you may be able to line the inside… 1 1259 Is it just a report written to give to the bank initially and it is based on what and how your payments are made up for, or is it a full service where they go out and… 2 5605 Hi Suku18 In NSW the statutory required insurances are: 1.
