The reason I don't like stains is that they look a bit unnatural. Also once you stain it, you can't unstain it. You may be surprised that it will be dark enough for you unstained. Anyway it's a personal preference and depends on your door itself. thanks JB, im definitely considering just oiling the door now, ill go and have a close look and wet the door today. Love your study nook, I would have liked one if we could but didn't really work with our plans. Bathrooms are looking great. thanks i hope the jarrah looks good in gloss. i hadnt thought about the finish, it was hard enough choosing a colour. at least you got a study, i would have liked a study but it didnt fit in our plans. im really happy with the study nook though, at one stage we had a toilet there, so glad i thought about a study nook instead. Re: our first home, custom split level - vanities!!! 210Feb 07, 2013 4:15 pm Would anyone like to offer their opinion on 2 things for me? First is the splashback. I have been really struggling to decide on a colour for months now
ive thought about red, teal, charcoal (but there is heaps of charcoal upstairs), metallic silver, grey pebble to match the walls, grey pebble double strength, dulux grid (kind of a dark bluey grey, the same colour as the theatre) but I can't decide what will look the best. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Second is vanity bench tops. I got a call from the kitchen people this morning, the stone people were measuring the vanities today and wanted to know if the vanity tops will also be luna white. That was the original plan but now that ive seen the colours in the bathroom and ensuite, and yesterday I was googling something and came across a nice bathroom with a charcoal floor, white walls, white vanity and grey bench top and im thinking maybe a grey bench top might soften my bathrooms a bit. I can choose any quantum quartz colour. Unfortunately there isn’t a grey stone in the standard range but luna grey is in the next one up. Ive just left a message for the kitchen people to get a price for luna grey. Hopefully it wont be too much more. Re: our first home, custom split level - colour help please! 211Feb 07, 2013 4:33 pm my personal choice for the benchtop in vanity black as i love night sky( having night sky in my vanity with the white cabinets. but if not i would love the grey too for the kitchen i would like a deep red or the teal color Re: our first home, custom split level - colour help please! 212Feb 07, 2013 4:58 pm thanks rocky, i thought about black bench tops, i thought maybe if there was something black in there it might make the charcoal tiles look lighter - if that makes any sense. there isnt a black one in the standard range
hmm DF said if he had to choose the splashback colour he would choose red Re: our first home, custom split level - colour help please! 213Feb 07, 2013 5:14 pm ooops i told you fibs rocky. there is a black one in the standard range. might be too much though? I just had a look through the kitchens on real estate.com again, I'm thinking a nice light sort of colour and not too bright ... update and photos from today - we have a kitchen sink and bench top!! Really pleased with the bench top. Expected the sink to be a bit deeper but like the amount of space behind the tap. the bulkhead has also been plastered and cornices been put back up in the bathrooms. Not sure what colour splashback exactly but I'm thinking something lighter and not too bold as there are only little sections of colour required. You're right, it's a tough one! I guess with a white kitchen you could have any colour you can think of. Do you know how you are furnishing the other areas near the kitchen ? That could help pick something that would go with the rest of the room. I guess the decision is made harder with sooooo many choices these days. We built the Wisdom Majestic 40 - moved in!
