Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 14, 2008 5:55 pm Just a general blind question about gaps at sides of blinds
I can get a standard blind that is 1800mm wide and not need to alter it or I can buy the next size which is 1950 wide and adjust it. The window width is 1810. If I buy the 1800mm wide blind I will have a 10mm gap and if I buy the 1950 I can adjust it so I only have a 5mm gap. I have this delima with about 9 of my windows. The diffrence will be about $600 to the window costs for all. What do you think. A 5mm diffrence does not seem worth it. Ive been quoted an extra $25 to $50 per blind to adjust the gaps from 10mm to 5mm.
As yet i havent worked out how much this will add to the total cost of the blinds. What will you end up doing? and where are you getting your blinds from.? I got my quote from Home outlet in Cranbourne. Re: Gaps at sides of wooden venitian blinds 5Mar 14, 2008 11:43 pm clath, we're looking at getting our timber blinds from Home Outlet too. I will be paying the extra to get that snug fit...I can't stand too much light coming in between the arch's and the blinds...especially in the bedrooms.
Home Outlet are one of very few places that make the blinds in the chocolate colour we are after...and i can't be stuffed paying for custom made.... So the extra couple of hundred isn't an issue for me...i'll be paying it to make sure it looks nice against the window. Re: Gaps at sides of wooden venitian blinds 6Mar 15, 2008 12:31 am A mate bought a renovated place a while ago and the blinds that were already fitted have that gap down the sides and he's not happy with it. I guess it all depends on how concerned you are with privacy and/or light intrusion. Re: Gaps at sides of wooden venitian blinds 8Mar 15, 2008 6:49 am Rachelle Isn't 1810 pretty standard? You'd think the standard blinds would be 1810, how silly! Are you serious? So how exactly would you open and close them if they were the same width? How much gap do you have around your doors and their frames? Do you ever take notice of that gap? Ever wonder how easy it would be to open if it were the same width as the door hole. Please...... And if you're buying venetians to stop light so you can sleep, then you need your head read. Re: Gaps at sides of wooden venitian blinds 9Mar 15, 2008 8:51 am Had a quote from Home Outlet as well. As like pheonix I want those chocolate blinds and cant find them anywhere else and home outlet is very good pricing. I think I will pay the extra as the less gap the better.
Pheonix did hey quote you on panel glides. Not sure if you having sliding doors or not and I know in previous posts you indicated you were getting these Re: Gaps at sides of wooden venitian blinds 10Mar 15, 2008 10:13 am stevec Had a quote from Home Outlet as well. Not sure if you having sliding doors or not and I know in previous posts you indicated you were getting these Hi Steve, i haven't looked at their panel glides yet, our slider is a triple slider door but is quite private due to our large alfresco, so not sure if we will want coverings straight away. I do like their double roller blinds too but not for the slider door and they said that they were getting a new range in which might even have a price drop...There was a really nice woven black/beige-ish material that i saw for their roller blinds, but not sure on them yet. Al, i'm going for a layered look, venetion blinds with another layer over the top, prob. feature curtains or sheers to soften the look. I know that everyone doesn't like the venetions, but if they are trimmed correctly, they can open up and minimise the amount of light entering the room. The timber blinds worked well for us at our last house, so i'm happy to go with them again this time. Re: Gaps at sides of wooden venitian blinds 12Mar 15, 2008 10:18 pm Umm just a little thing but if the window is a standard 1810mm and the blind is 1800mm then that is a 5mm gap either side not to mention you do require a small gap so the blinds don't catch on the window reveals when you raise and lower the blind.
Also your standard alum. windows have approx. 15mm frame that will be behind the blind and will stop light coming through the gap anyway so I can't see a problem... Re: Gaps at sides of wooden venitian blinds 14Mar 16, 2008 3:32 pm Hi phoenix i like the sheers to. I popped into spotlight at Fountain Gate last week they have a good variety to choose from.. I might just get ready made.
As for my slider its small so i might just tint it, and get a nice pelmet. Panel glides will be too big. Again with the gap issue the sales guy explained the window frame that sits behind the blind will stop the light from coming in the sides of the blinds.
