But I was hoping to find out who you got your shutters with (rather then searching back through all your posts!) we are looking at making the investment and would prefer to use a company we know someone else has been happy with! Re: Our Cottage Block Build NOR, Perth WA- 2 Year Review &Ti 382Nov 08, 2015 12:24 am Hi Felicity, Great to hear from you again, I see that there is to be an addition to your household , congratulations. If you are talking about our plantation shutters, we got these through Spotlight, the end result was quite good but it was nearly two months before they were delivered. They gave us the best price by quite a bit but I don't know if I would use them again because of the long delay. If you want to see them in "real life", my OH and I would be glad to show them to you, just let me know and I will pm the address. They have been a blessing to us because the design of the building makes hanging curtains a problem, they also look good and are far easier to clean than Venetian blinds, more classy too, we think. They are expensive but for us they were worth it, good luck with your choice. John Re: Our Cottage Block Build NOR, Perth WA- 2 Year Review &Ti 383Nov 08, 2015 8:15 pm Thanks John D We have the blinds we had with the build currently so I am not too worried about having to wait, particularly for the right price! I had never even thought of Spotlight, they were on my list in terms of curtains but not the shutters. I love the idea of being able to have them open enough for the breeze to come in without being wide open, which is what we have to do with the blinds we have or the bang in the breeze! drives me mad!! Thank you again for your help!! Re: Our Cottage Block Build NOR, Perth WA- 2 Year Review &Ti 384Apr 04, 2016 1:20 pm After 3 years in our Cottage I have nothing much to add to the Tips and Reviews covered earlier in this blog but recently a "biggie" emerged which I wish I had thought of earlier. When we planned and built the house we had an SUV with a side opening door so garage height wasn't a problem bur recently we purchased another SUV with the more usual upwards opening tailgate and came across a major problem on the very first day. The tailgate could not open fully as it would hit the garage door and if I had not detected the problem before opening the boot, my new car would have suffered some damage. I overcame this to a lesser extent by finding a piece of quite thick foam rubber and attaching it to the garage door at the point of impact with the tailgate, this has protected the vehicle but the rear tailgate does not fully open resulting in many head bangs and much bad language. Looking back on the building options I noticed that a heightened garage opening was available but in my ignorance at that stage I did not pay this option much attention. My recommendation is this:- If you have a large car or an SUV, or plan on buying one of these at some stage, you need to consider increasing your garage door height. Yes, it will add a bit to the cost of the house but this extra cost will be well worth it. If your garage is big enough, you may even have a small trailer boat and a higher than normal garage door will definitely be an advantage. Think about this carefully if you are in the planning stage of building your new home it was something I wish that someone had warned me about....
