Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Rawson Homes - the adventure begins 441Jun 18, 2013 5:27 pm Thanks Smorgzzz... Will see how we go tomorrow at the appointment. Will ask for installed price and provision price. Did you provide the downlights? or did the sparky? Re: Rawson Homes - the adventure begins 442Jun 18, 2013 5:34 pm JTM - We bought the downlights thru an electrical wholesaler using our sparky's account, as he is my husbands mate. I just booked electrical for mid July! Iv been told I cannot have a double powerpoint on either side of my Kitchen Island bench because the microwave is at one end and a set of draws at the other end and it requires a mounting block and conduit which takes up alot of room..hmmmmm Im going to get Rawson to do conduit run with bullnose plate for my wall mount TVs. Does anyone know what a standard height is to install my TVs on the wall? Because im installing downlights after handover the extra light circuits & safety switch is a killer!! They say an extra light circuit can hold up to 14 light points. Re: Rawson Homes - the adventure begins 445Jun 19, 2013 6:24 am Tanya- that is not true regarding PowerPoint I have one on my microwave side! Go back to your CSO and they will raise a variation for it. The electrical consultants don't like doing it because they need to cut into the laminex or caesarstone in our case. Is it 70mm or 90mm. The electricians will charge you extra for doing the cut outs. Generally during your electrical consult, you will be advised that a baton will be provided. Trust me, you do not want this. It is ugly and difficult to work with. We had about 90 put in throughout the house and did not want to look continuously at batons. When they did our place, the wires were looped only in the floor and ceiling cavities and a small screwdriver hole made in the plasterboard. We were given a set out plan and all of the measurements have been within 10-20mm. This is definitely the way to go and MUCH tidier. My electrical appointment is booked for next week and I just queried Your Home Consulting (who Rawson is using for electrical appointments) about this and the response was that there's really only two options. Supply and installed by them or prewire with batons. Was really interested to get brightgreen downlights but it seems like Rawson won't be able to provide 413 quick connects (brightgreen downlights use GPO). My only option is supply & installed by Rawson (I asked and they use eco branded downlights) or prewire with batons and then get an electrician out after handover to switch them to 413 quick connects for the brightgreen. Wonder how much electricians charge per baton. Might have to go with their supplied and install downlights. Re: Rawson Homes - the adventure begins 447Jun 20, 2013 1:37 pm Electrical went great yesterday. we of course went over our budgeted allowance, but figured it's worth it being able to move in and not have the worry of getting an eleco in to install downlights etc. We have a bit of a buffer so we have dipped into that a little. YHC were great and very easy to work with. We were prepared, but still took nearly 2.5hours! Satisfied that the electrical is all done. Now onto colours!!! Can't wait!! ETA: oooh adn we have a DA number! woot! Fingers crossed for 4 weeks turn around!!! Max will be 6. Our sparky added the quick connects in for us, they don't cost much to buy, and took no longer to install, so it shouldn't be that much more. We are planning on building the Stroud 30 with the vougue facade, but also doubling the alfresco area, and adding an extra garage. I think we may even be building in the same street as Mr & Mrs Bigted?? I've been able to get so much info from these threads and look forward to sharing our experiences with you all. I apologise in advance for asking heaps of questions as we are first time builders, and my husband works away on Groote Erylandt so its going to be very interesting Re: Rawson Homes - the adventure begins 450Jun 21, 2013 3:05 pm Welcome pinny. A bit of a delay in handover but all worth it in the end. Our house is beautiful. Will NEVER build again but am very happy with our Rawson home & definitely don't regret our decision to build with them. Will be providing feedback to management on how they can make the process less painful for those of you just starting out! That is always a good start. Ours was over what we expected, but there were some council requirements plus an H2 slab which pushed it over. Mr and Mrs Bigted - how is the house. Photos please!!! They say an extra light circuit can hold up to 14 light points. We put ours at 1400 for lounges and theatre rooms for 55" TVs. Bedrooms were put at 1600 for a little more lift and comfort to watch from bed. You may want to consider using a reverse bullnose in lieu as you will have no protrusion. These are great for flat mounted TVs. We had 5 extra power circuits used and 5 extra light circuits used. On top of his we put in a three phase surge protector on the fuse board too for added security.
