Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 07, 2012 7:31 pm Hi Everyone, Please guide me! My builder has refusd to remove the wrong floorboards that they have installed. I 'm a bit surprised from this response considering the great lengths that my wife and I have gone to make sure we get timber flooring in our house. This includes requesting builder not to install tiles in our house since builder did not offer floorboards. We went our way to find a vendor, etc and got quotes to make sure we get what we want. The builder then comes back and tells us that they are happy to offer floorboards however, we would need to visit a wholeseller to confirm selection since the builder did not have samples. We went through this process and provided the builder with what we need. Some months later, we drive past our house and find that what they have installed is NOT what we selected. Whilst installation was in progress, we rang the supervisor and informed him that the floorboards that are being installed RIGHT NOW are not what we had selected. He did not take any action and let the installation happen. I also emailed the CSR about it. Today, I got a call from my CSR saying, sorry we will not change the floorboards. I have asked them WHY they will not change it. If for instance, the builder does not change the floorboards. What are my options? Thank you all in advance. If he has than he has to replace at his own cost. We had chosen Sydney Blue Gum but it.is not the Sydneu Blue Gum they have installed. For this, my wife and I went to visit the wholeseller and ahowed the Sales Manager the picture of our floorboard. She also confirmed that it is not the same. However, she did mention that they were out of stock on the ones we had selected but they could get it if required. I don't know whether they have simply mentioned SBG per above. I will check that. We even selected our laminates and furniture based on our floorboards. Re: builder installed wrong floorboards 5Jun 08, 2012 2:29 pm Was anything writtem down? Email? Variation on contract? How specific were you on the flooring when communicating with the builders? e.g. "Install Sydney Blue Gum Select Grade from XYZ supplier" or "Install Sydney Blue Gum"? If you just said to install "Sydney Blue Gum", and they gave you feature grade (and you didn't communicate you wanted select grade), then I would suspect that would be within their contractual rights. Re: builder installed wrong floorboards 6Jun 08, 2012 2:47 pm Thanks trayracer. Well, I checked the contract and it says Sydney Blue Gum. That's all. It was well understood with the CSR as to what we wanted because we showed her the picture of what we had selected since they did not have the samples themselves. She is now away on leave which has compounded this issue. I 'm sure if she was there, she would have handled it differently. To answer your question, they have mentioned only Sydney Blue Gum and nothing else. No feature grade or whatever. Re: builder installed wrong floorboards 7Jun 08, 2012 2:50 pm Pays to be specific and have everything in writing. Saying this and that doesnt mean squat until its written down. Either live with it or rip it up afterwards and reinstall yourself. If I had the understanding of different types of Sydney Blue Gum, I would have definitely done that. Having said that, paying someone thousands of dollars who does this everyday, I would have thought, it is their responsibility to educate me. Re: builder installed wrong floorboards 9Jun 08, 2012 3:26 pm but your installer, would only be going off what was on the contract and by your own words in yr original post, your builder does not deal in floorboards. its unfortunate lesson to READ very careful every word of your contract and assume NOTHING. sorry if it sounds harsh....but they have fulfilled what the contract said Re: builder installed wrong floorboards 10Jun 08, 2012 3:55 pm What type of timber have they installed, you said it's not SBG, what is it? Now, the Construction Manager is going to meet us on Monday and talk us into having them as what we ordered. Can somebody tell me what agencies can help me with this? Re: builder installed wrong floorboards 13Jun 13, 2012 10:52 pm Hi there, I knew someone whose builder stained their stair case the wrong colour & hence the floorboards didn't match. Their builder wouldn't fix this either. I think with staining you can't fix it without ripping out the stairs so you can imagine why they didn't want to do that, still it was their mistake. I guess it comes down to the builder and their 'care factor' - I don't know what the legalities are. Good luck!
