Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 04, 2012 11:16 pm I was wondering if those who have built with Porter Davis.. would u recommend putting the fireplace in with Porter Davis at the time of the build? Or just get them to make a provision then do it post-handover? Cheaper at post-handover but will it mess up the walls and floor badly? Has anyone built with Porter Davis and had their fireplace put in AFTER handover? jnkbids Re: Fireplace with Porter Davis.. .before or after handover? 2Jun 05, 2012 1:20 pm We are having PD install a gas fire in the family area and we are installing another traditional style gas fire (which doesn't give off a great deal of heat, will be more for show) in the formal living area after handover. For the fire we are doing, we got PD to provide a full height plaster projection wall 1600mm wide x 520mm deep, with an additional gas point and power installed inside the projection. Then it's just a matter of having it installed then connected by a gas plumber (I think that's the job title ) after handover. If you don't want a projection into the room, I believe you can get PD to do an external brick fire box but it does cost quite a lot, from memory I think we were quoted around $1200. The reason we got PD to do the gas fire in the family area is because for the fire we liked, part of it needs to be fitted before plaster is done. It obviously costs more to get PD to do it, but it would be too much hassle for us otherwise. As far as damaging flooring, we will be doing timber boards after handover so there was no issue. I would suggest getting a price from PD for the fire you want and then pricing it elsewhere including installation. If you can justify or afford the difference then get PD to do it. Re: Fireplace with Porter Davis.. .before or after handover? 3Jun 05, 2012 11:08 pm thanks... will price with Porter Davies and Jetmaster and see how much the difference is... worried that it might be too much hassle to do it after handover / mess up the fireplace / mess up the wall..... Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12341 Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room. We have a large N/W facing window and are wanting to have a wood slow… 0 13725 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11585 |
