Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 04, 2012 9:17 pm Hi guys, just wondering if anyone else has come across this? We found a soggy letter on our site this morning with our names on it from Urban Utilities the sewage and water supplier for Brisbane, and apparently we haven't paid our last 3 bills (three quarters worth) this is due to the fact we didn't know we were getting them! Anyway a phone call to them and they advise that this is for access charges, so even though it is not connected we have to pay for the privilege of having access to sewage and water. We are in an established suburb in inner north Bris (apparently established suburbs have to pay access regardless of whether the services are actually being used). Has anyone had any luck disputing these charges? Cheers Mel My building blog is here: http://metriconcedar32.blogspot.com.au Re: $500 in sewage and water access fees? I too am located in the BCC (Mitchelton) and although I have been receiving rates notices, I have not received anything from Urban Utilities. We bought our land off the QLD government and they had demolished the house that was previously on the block. Speaking to the very helpful guy in the Urban Utilities call centre, he had advised that billing had been suspended on our account due to the house being demolished and a 'Seal off certificate' had been supplied advising that sewage/water access was no longer required on the block. He also advised that he could see on the account that a development application for sewage/water connection had been received for our block (we only got out of council 3 weeks ago) and that we would be billed for access charges once this was processed (despite not being connected to the house). So if you have had council approval for a while, or 'Seal off certifcate' was never supplied you will be charged because under the Urban Utilities billing system you are deemed to have access to their infrastructure. Re: $500 in sewage and water access fees? Brisbane city coun 4Jun 05, 2012 7:42 pm Thanks guys, yeah they have been sending our rates to our current address (without us advising them) so I didn't even think about the Urban utilities! Hmmmm we bought a block where the previous house was demolished too, I think our council approval was about November but pretty sure Urban utilities said they had been billing since October (about the time we bought the land), I doubt anyone would have put through a 'seal off certificate'.
