Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 01, 2012 10:26 pm We went to our block of land today, first time actually walking around on it and having a proper look. Pretty exciting We noticed one neighbour has been throwing dog poo over the fence, and it's built up A LOT and smells bad. They have also thrown over a lot of grass clippings. I know it's going to be cleared, so it's not really a huge issue right now, we just worry about once the block has been cleared, we obviously don't want this to continue! I just don't really know what to think about this, to be honest. It's pretty gross. Another thing is the fence has been badly damaged with a dent over 1.5m long in it, quite obviously made by the neighbour on their side. Also not sure what to think about it. DF just wanted me to put it out there and ask others opinions and what they would do. Probably sounds a bit petty but ah well Re: What would your thoughts be? 2Jun 01, 2012 10:41 pm Throw the poo back of course! In all seriousness I would leave it until you have some action start on your block, if they haven't stopped then, that's when I would approach them. As for the fence you would have to discuss it with them and split it 50/50. I see no other way around that. Sorry my advise maybe not as usefull as you are hoping. What would your thoughts be? 3Jun 01, 2012 10:56 pm Not hoping for anything in particular We definitely won't be having it once the block has been cleared, that will be not on at all. So it may just end up back over their side, lol. Re: What would your thoughts be? 4Jun 02, 2012 9:42 am Just let it ride till your block is cleared, if they keep throwing the dog poo over then it's probably time to say something and start the war. because honestly untill then its not a problem, but if they keep doing it after then well there inconsiderate and probably not worth wasteing your time on. The grass clippings well, I really wouldn't worry much about them untill you get close to your final clean, i've built 6 homes in new estates for myself as well as worked on I don't know how many hundreds more. If grass clippings are the worst thing that lands on your block during your build you have been very very lucky. Finally I don't believe in the notion you have to get along with your neighbours, if there a$$holes why would you want to get along with them. Cheers Re: What would your thoughts be? 5Jun 02, 2012 10:39 am Hopefully once there is movement on the site things will change...perhaps even the tradies will complain, and save you from doing it? Other than that, yes, wait until block cleanup. Also everyone knows about fence costs being shared so maybe you don't go exact halves unless they are prepared to get the damaged part fixed? Keep the peace as far as you can without being doormats. Be polite, a soft answer turns away wrath. Why start a war when you don't have to? Having lived next to a grumpy neighbor who left a temporary structure with old tyres over our boundary line, it is a miserable way to live. After several warnings we reported him to the shire and he had to comply and move them. It wasn't like he didn't have notice. We stayed polite but distant. Eventually after a few years his wife and I got on speaking terms and she told me that he wasn't going to do anything about it until the shire stepped in. Basically he was just lazy and trying to use our land for storage!! He thought we are just saying that but won't involve shire as he has been getting away with that for last 12 months or so. we did tell shire and shire told him to remove and within a week rubbish was removed by him. Re: What would your thoughts be? 7Jun 03, 2012 7:34 am Put the dog poo in the letterbox...it will stop them doing it. We had some horrid new australians beside us in tarneit, they would throw dog crap and whatever else over the fence. I collected it and left it in their mail box, it stopped. Thankfully we no longer live in that dank suburb :p Re: What would your thoughts be? 8Jun 04, 2012 10:46 am MegLeigh89 We went to our block of land today, first time actually walking around on it and having a proper look. Probably sounds a bit petty but ah well Hi there The dog poo and grass clippings should sort themselves out once you start building. We have an empty block next to us and while we don't use it as a dumping ground the neighbours across the road do! As for the fence, that's a bit of a tough one as I'm guessing you haven't contributed to the cost of construction for it? Maybe just approach them nicely and ask if they're planning to fix it otherwise I guess you'll either have to put up with it or maybe contribute to the cost of repair? Good luck with the build! Re: What would your thoughts be? 9Jun 04, 2012 1:09 pm Personally i wouldnt really care if there was no house on my block yet its the principle of someone thinking they can dump their crap on your block, literally. If it was me i would approach them now and ask them politely to refrain from doing it in the future. If they continue then ask them a little less politely the second time. If they still continue put it in a paper bag on their door step and set it on fire, press the door bell and run lol You can guarantee they will stomp the fire out and we know where this is going.... They may not even realise someone owns the block yet, which is still no excuse. Is it in an estate or an already built up suburb? My advice is highly illegal and not really what should be said on a public forum, but dumping stuff on your block is also illegal and sometimes there is only one way to stop people from doing it. I have considered putting a note in their letterbox asking that when the block gets cleared if they could find alternative means of disposing their rubbish. But I agree, it's illegal and why should we put up with it at all, it'd be no different to going to the park up the road and dumping it all there. I'll be nice and let it go until it gets cleared, I'll give them notice, maybe that will see them stopping even before the block gets cleared? DF managed to fix the fence himself, he just put some pressure on the massive dent and it went back to normal - so not too worried about that now. What would your thoughts be? 11Jun 04, 2012 3:14 pm Not much help to the general discussion, but want to trump everyone's experiences... When our neighbours were having their pool constructed, twice, yes TWICE, the tradies jumped the fence and crapped on our block. We never saw them of course, they were hidden amongst the shrubs. My husband discovered it both times when he was gardening. They hadn't even tried to bury it, just left it there for one of our kids to trod in. The damning evidence was the piece of paper squished on top that had obviously been used to wipe the filthy bugger's arse. It was a delivery docket from the local garden supplies, complete with address!!! Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
