I believe that what you're talking about is called "square set", and it's the look a lot of people want. It usually does cost a bit extra, probably because the builder has to be a bit careful with where the ceiling meets the wall (whereas a cornice can cover all sorts of building crimes). My German father in law was apparently rather "WTF?!" when he arrived here in 1981 and saw the fact that everything here had a ceiling with a cornice ... I guess in Germany they built things right back then, so didn't need cornices to hide she'll-be-rights. Re: ceiling no cornice 3May 31, 2012 8:57 am I think its a great look. one of the reasons it cost more is they need to go to next size plasterboard sheet to get the wall to meet ceiling. Your standard wall height is 2440, 10mm gap at the bottom, 2x1200 sheets and a 30mm gat at the top that gets covered by cornice. So they need to cut down a 1350 sheet to fill in the 30mm.
