Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 30, 2012 8:13 am What is the standard depth of fence posts? This is a new 1.8m paling fence with exposed posts. I'm sure I heard my neighbour say the fencing contractor told him they dig deeper than anyone else, but what is the standard depth? Is there even a standard? Re: How deep are fence post into the ground? 2May 30, 2012 9:21 am Normally 600mm, really depends on the ground Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: How deep are fence post into the ground? 3May 30, 2012 11:54 am A 100x75mm post will need a 200mm hole between 500-600 deep. Don't under any circumstance use pine posts as they will bow no matter how deep you bury them. A trick when concreting in your post, put the 2 end ones in first and brace them so you can put a string line near the top. When you put your other posts in dont worry if they are not plumb against the string line just plumb from side to side. This way if you holes are in and out a bit you will still end up with a nice straight fence across the top, and thats the bit that everyone sees. The bottoms may be out of line 30-50mm but everyone will coment on how straight your fence is. mgilla Re: How deep are fence post into the ground? 4May 30, 2012 12:11 pm Finally got a hold of our fencing contractor. Ours are a min 700mm deep Re: How deep are fence post into the ground? 5May 30, 2012 1:23 pm dazandstace Finally got a hold of our fencing contractor. Ours are a min 700mm deep I guess it's hard to prove otherwise once there in there. But im saying that if a standard everyday garden variety fencing contractor building an 1800 high pailing fence reacons there putting there posts in the ground more than 700mm deep, I'm calling BS. Congratulations to you if he has infact done that. Re: How deep are fence post into the ground? 6May 30, 2012 1:46 pm hole may well be 700mm deep, bet the post is 600mm into the hole though as generally post are 2400mm long Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: How deep are fence post into the ground? 7May 30, 2012 3:11 pm Well will be award as he is my neighbour 2 doors down Thanks for your advice.
