Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Soundproofing Costs 2May 29, 2012 11:53 am You need two main things, more mass like thicker plaster or acoustic batts and more sealing around doors windows and pipe penetrations. It can cost a heap, but it depends on if you just want some more peace and quiet or if you leave adjacent to tram depot! @builderforlife Building inspector and passionate about construction When you need an expert to take a look. Re: Soundproofing Costs 4May 29, 2012 4:21 pm You could just use sound screen insulation and that will certainly make a difference. CSR bradfords do it supply and install. Re: Soundproofing Costs 5May 29, 2012 9:09 pm There's soundproofing and then there's soundproofing. For example, stuff that might be sufficient for your home cinema certainly wouldn't have been sufficient when we were in a recording studio, with broadcast radio being a step below that, and then our requirements for say sports commentary another step below that. The former is a case if "if you have to ask, you can't afford it". Building a Delta 21 at Craigieburn - http://homeofzero.blogspot.com.au/ Deposit: 26/02. Contract: 22/05. Settlement: 29/05. Re: Soundproofing Costs 7May 31, 2012 11:35 am Our media room is in the back corner of the house so we did sound deadening on the 2 internal walls only. The walls arent very big but it only cost $250 to purchase the batts and the builder put them in for us before the plaster went up You need to be a bit more specific i think as to what you want done because if you only want one room it would probably be affordable, if you want the house done it would probably cost a couple of thousand dollars Re: Soundproofing Costs 8May 31, 2012 12:36 pm We had soundproof R2.0 batts installed in the walls surrounding the master bedroom, ensutie and powder on the ground floor and 2 bedrooms, study, bathroom, toilet on the top floor. This came to about $1500. We also had it put between the ground and 1st floor for the whole floor (got a 2 story) which came to $900 ish. All in all it was about $2400 to get it in the places we want to keep a little more quite. We just wanted it to stop that hollow echo of new house can sometimes have in certain places. I guess it depends on what level you want to go to with soundproofing. I think ours is pretty much minimum but still provides some level of privacy (or loud music, stomping from kids). Plus.. i hate going to a new homes toilet area and hearing echo... if you know what I mean... Thats one place I want a little privacy!! ... in case we have visitors... Re: Soundproofing Costs 9May 31, 2012 11:53 pm You can get soundstop plasterboard it does cost a bit, I had one room done and it was more expensive for the plasterboard upgrade than the acoustic batts...its recommended to do both if possible. I had this done for 1 wall only If you don't want to annoy the neighbours then simply get yourself some good head phones. For me the sound is much better using headphones.
