Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 27, 2012 5:16 pm Hi all Hoping to get some advice we love where we live and have a big block we are looking to do a knockdown rebuild in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. We have had a design done and for a 26square single storey. The cost including everything except the physical knockdown we have been quoted $12,300 per square that includes all finishes (powerpoints etc etc ) Is this a good quote for a custome design? Re: Cost of a custom build 2May 27, 2012 5:57 pm I would have said that was quite inexpensive. My normal range is $16k a square, and a high quality architectural finish can go as high as $ 24000. @builderforlife Building inspector and passionate about construction When you need an expert to take a look. Re: Cost of a custom build 3May 27, 2012 6:26 pm Hey builderforlife, As you are a builder, I can understand your knowledge of a "square" ,but why are we still using it in Oz. Real estate agents may choose to use it to up sell a smaller property by listing the area in " squares " , making it sound bigger that it actually is, and yes I am not from eastern states, so don't see it used over in the west, but how many American immigrants do you have over there, being an imperial measurement , this should have been long forgotten. Hey , when I bought a block just three years ago the boundary was listed in " chains" on the title ( from 1930's or so ) so some things still slip by but this is a new build that knockdownvic is proposing. I don't intend to sound like I m taking the Mickey , am aware that I sound like I am, west coast are on top of the ladder making this question even less worth answering on your part but i am just curious. I am happy to talk square metres but if you have a 230 m2 house is that Gracelands or just a big family home? @builderforlife Building inspector and passionate about construction When you need an expert to take a look. I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature. Nice pick with the paint colours! 1 34266 6 55311 So it looks like we finally have some movement on site! Definitely later than expected, but I'll take any progress at this point. I'll drop by over the weekend to get… 5 26997 |
