Re: National Broadband Network 65Dec 21, 2012 10:34 pm NBNCo will install to a working ethernet point in your house and connect you up. As part of the install, what they wont do is multiple sockets and the room you want may have extra charges to it or may be deemed not possible for them. All the builders are doing is showing people 'smart wiring' packages and stating to them "you want this for your area, you have the NBN" and hope that just like the other 98% of people, "Oh OK, its just another $1500". Its just the way its been sold and the suggestion that its required when it isnt. New house builds you should get some advice on what you want where, as conduits are cheap to run and you can bring someone in later to do the work. Retro fitting a house for data and TV points you will find sockets arent where you want them to be. It is a good idea to ensure that the builder has the right conduit from street to house and then you need to decide on the rest of the install and components. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rwvw1uv7dcQ - 2min video on what is setup for you. Remember that this is an existing built up area and that builders are trying to squeeze people into getting 'complete packages' and not just one data socket, which the NBN would supply at the time of install. At the 1:21sec mark you can see the NBN box which is where your computer or router is connected to, thats provided by the NBN for all installs, its not just to the outside of the house. No they are not.. they are doing an interna Fibre run to the ONT then it has ethernet ports on it Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: National Broadband Network 67Dec 22, 2012 6:27 am Has anyone actually managed to get connected to the NBN yet? Our estate is apparently NBN ready, meaning the fibre is in the streets but isn't connected to an exchange so it's pretty useless at the moment. We have been in for 3 months now and each month the nbn connection date gets pushed further back (mar 2012 now). Very frustrating as we can't get any form of Internet except 3G,as we have no phone lines, which can be terribly slow a lot of the time. I feel for those that have home businesses. The rollout of NBN to new estates seems to be an absolute ballsup as the developers were told they can either pay for it or NBN would do it for free, so they all just left it to the NBN who can't cope. They would have been better off paying the developers to do it themselves. Re: National Broadband Network 69Dec 22, 2012 9:01 am There's a few conflicting stories in here What Eden brae are charging is for a power point for the power supply and 2 internal data points. They also install a conduit from the street and internal conduit both with a draw wire to where the network termination device (NTD)will be installed. NBN co will install your conduit also but won't charge you for it but you won't get the internal data points if they do it which isn't a great problem if you want to use wireless or do your own data cable runs. You can just install your wireless router where the NTD is and be happy with wireless. In regards to building in a opticom estate i didn't think you would need an NBN install as the developer would take care of it all including wiring the house internally with data points. Agreed, despite waterford county developer saying not required, EB are still persisting... I am not going to pay for it.. |
