Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 22, 2012 6:14 pm hope this work. think ive finally figured this out.
we are building this home on our 10 acres in Lake Clifton. Seems like it has taken forever to get to this stage, but im not the most patient person in the world. We signed our PCQ back in December. Had prestart beginning of May. Formal finance approval last saturday, and plans gone to council this week. I was totally stressed for the most part, but in the last couple of weeks have relaxed heaps and am actually starting to enjoy it. we have actally made a couple of changes to these plans at prestart, to change to a FHO from entry into family, and window in family to a SD. The AC unit is going on the garage wall, and the SHWS will be on the bath wall. Re: Our Red Ink Home 2May 23, 2012 10:50 am Your "greatroom" area looks awesome. Love that pantry too. Which direction does the greatroom face? And pardon my ignorance but what is FHO?? I use acronyms all day at work but can't guess this one...! We put a deposit on our block in 2010. Still waiting for titles so we can build... Was supposed to be March this year, now March 2013. I am WAY beyond stress. Will follow your build with interest. Lucky you with 10 acres!! Do you have any photos of the house site? Re: Our Red Ink Home 3May 23, 2012 11:15 am Garden, I love it... it is a very similar floor plan to ours, especially kitchen and great room Great taste hehehe..... cant wait for our builds to start ........so exciting that our waiting period is nearly come to an end.... Re: Our Red Ink Home 5May 23, 2012 12:36 pm thanks. we're really happy with the design....after spending 2 years in a shed + caravan, its going to feel like a huge palace trees - FHO stands for full height opening. before, it was just the height for a 28c ceiling, but as we have the 31c, they dont 'brick it up' if that makes sense...basically you get the full feel of the higher ceilings in entry thru to family area. [dont know if i explained that very well ] will see if i can get some photos of the site. Re: Our Red Ink Home 6May 23, 2012 1:16 pm Re: Our Red Ink Home 7May 23, 2012 1:48 pm Great site, love that there are trees around but not too close! So which direction are you facing the house? Yes, after a caravan you will feel like you're living in a ballroom Re: Our Red Ink Home 8May 23, 2012 1:52 pm When you live in a caravan (even for a week or two on holiday) you realise how little space you really do need .... but it's so much nicer to be able to spread out ... and that's not "just a power box" to us!! We know what it means .... For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Our Red Ink Home 9May 23, 2012 1:58 pm we're positioning the house so that the minor beds will be on the east side, and family/games/kitchen will be west facing out into the paddocks.... Re: Our Red Ink Home 10May 23, 2012 2:01 pm That area will get pretty hot in summer; are you tinting the windows or anything? Re: Our Red Ink Home 11May 23, 2012 2:04 pm I love lake clifton. my parents had a 10acre property there quite a few years ago...right next to the lake with just the track in between...used to ride horses up there (i am sure illegally!) and it was so pretty! House looks fantastic! Re: Our Red Ink Home 12May 23, 2012 2:09 pm yeah it will get hot, especially with our WA summers, but we are putting up a full length gabled patio after the build. plus we will have air-con. but we wanted to have the beds on the cooler side. and hopefully [if my money tree that i plant does well ] we will be putting a pool out there too. we put a pool in at our other place and we soooo miss it.
havent quite decided on the window furnishings yet...kinda leaning toward the double roller blinds, where one can be block-out and the other sheer. [just another thing to have to decide on ] yes Vans...we back right onto the lake: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Our Red Ink Home 13May 23, 2012 2:15 pm I was told by a friend who used to install blinds to be careful about the brackets they use on some of the double blinds; some types apparently stick out much too far from the window. (I would never think to check the size of the brackets before buying; just a tip to pass on, as I am leaning towards the day/night ones as well....! Re: Our Red Ink Home -council approval :) 15Jun 06, 2012 4:22 pm yay. just heard from our clo, that we received council approval yesterday...which is 12 days from when it went to shire and that the file is already in scheduling.....yay for us..but more of the waiting game. Re: Our Red Ink Home 16Jun 06, 2012 5:01 pm Yay, some progress at last!!! Here's hoping they will push it through quick so the slab etc. can be started before the rain sets in! And all they need is a few days to pour and set! Then you won't mind how much it rains, helps it cure better! Re: Our Red Ink Home 17Jun 06, 2012 5:49 pm wooo hooo, the weather is delaying our slab going down hopefully it will clear up soon so they can start on both our slabs ....... Re: Our Red Ink Home - we survived the storm 18Jun 10, 2012 6:05 pm for those in wa you'll know what im talking about. OMG!!! that was the scariest 2 hours of my life. have been bunkered down in the donga with my 3 1/2 yr and the dog while the shed and donga shook like it was made out of paper. have emerged to survey the damage to the property and it looks like a scene from the movie twister we have trees down everywhere. completely lost the tv antenna. one tree has been completely stripped of its bark on the west side . NEVER seen that b4. some damage to external fencing but not alot...more damage to internal fencing but thats ok. fortunately all the stock and us are ok, so the rest doesnt matter. hey mary, thank goodness our re-peg hasnt been done yet - or they would have to be doing a re-peg of the re-peg Re: Our Red Ink Home 19Jun 10, 2012 6:23 pm We thought our garage door was going to blow in onto the cars- it has done that once before, and ripped the meter box for retic off the wall as well and left wires dangling.... The garage door was ballooning towards the cars, it's a sectional door too so the gusts were pretty strong!! But we were luckier than a lot of folk who lost their roofs yesterday. The forecast yesterday was for more wild weather and thunderstorms.... fingers crossed it won't be as bad!! Re: Our Red Ink Home 20Jun 10, 2012 8:50 pm Hey GardenofNeed, I'm looking forward to seeing your beautiful house on your block I'm building in Meadow Springs so we're either side of the town And yes, that was a horrible gale today! And apparently more is coming! Our portaloo tipped over at our block, fences and roofs destroyed, trees EVERYWHERE! Hope everyone is okay I’m restoring all my 40yr old windows and I want to install seals around the casements. I’ve sanded back and oiled the frames with sikkens. My plan is to box up inside… 0 6514 We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds. That’s why we… 5 16275 Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive). Would require a mini… 13 39716 |
