Browse Forums Building A New House Re: How big should a great room be? 2May 22, 2012 6:35 am Not sure if any size is "too big" as long as you have the furniture/decor to fill it ie. large sofa(s)/coffee table/entertainment unit, shelves and other cabinetry/art work so that you're not looking at large expanses of empty wall, etc. We've got an irregular "grand room" - family area is 6.2m x 5.2m and kitchen/dining area is 7.5m * 4.0m (so it's a little smaller than yours with the main area being 6.2m x 9.2m with an extra 1.3m of width to the "family" area) - we've also flipped the nominated dining and family areas around so that the alfresco opens up off the dining area to make that space bigger for entertaining/parties. Some people apparently have nothing better to do than comment on other people's sigs. Re: How big should a great room be? 4May 22, 2012 10:32 am We are 9m x 7m approx which takes in kitchen, dining, lounge. Also havre triple sliding doors that open out onto alfresco with timber deck that is 5m x 6.5m so makes for one huge open space. Great for entertaining & family. We really like it. Not too big. The dining room will be for our dinner table and our living room will have a smaller couch and TV setup. The Home theater will be our main lounge area. Nice and simple and plenty of room for everything. We really needed the great room to have plenty of room to accommodate our 8ft pool table and if we decide to get rid of the pool table in the future, then it should be large enough to fit another dining set and couch set or even a large open rumpus room, or a number of possibilities. Definitely think of the future and plan ahead. You dont know what you might want the room to be used for in a couple of years from now. This would include a lounge, dining and kitchen. Is this too large as an open area? It really depends on the layout too? How big a kitchen etc, we have a living dining area 12x4-5m plus kitchen which is 6x3.5 Our last home the living was 6x6 and felt to big and square with a big space in middle of room, have a play and draw your furniture to scale and see what fits everything comfortably Re: How big should a great room be? 8May 23, 2012 12:21 pm I have finally located my dimensions - we have no formal lounge or dining so this area is our main living area. These are all internal measurements. From the inside of the pantry to the edge of the living room wall is approx 9000m. The narrowest edge of the living room to the deck area is 5860mm. The longest point of the room from the edge of kitchen to the wall dividing the dining from the toy room is 10990mm and the dining room depth is 5710mm. Some things are worth waiting for. i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 15980 hey there! π so, itβs kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 20892 |
