Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 21, 2012 12:00 am Hi All, We are currently building our first home, in victoria, which is almost complete (it is estimated that approx 2 weeks and we'll be in). However, one thing we need to desperately organise is fencing! This is the one area which I am totally confused by! I have found out the details of the people who bought the block behind us, and the people to the left of us (we are on a corner block), they have not started building yet. I am just wondering if anyone can please explain to me the process we need to go through to organise for our future neighbours to pay half of the boundary fence. I have been told apparently there are fencing forms that we are supposed to give them with quotes, but I am not sure where to get these. I have also asked the shire in the area we are building in and they said they don't have any forms, but to just write our future neighbours a nice letter with the quotes. i just want to make sure I organise everything properly as i dont want to be hit with the full cost of all the fencing, if anyone can please help that would be very greatly appreciated! Re: Organising boundary fencing for house we are building - 2May 21, 2012 8:05 am We have the same bridge to cross later this year I think you just need to get three quotes and write to your neighbors. When they agree I think most fencers will chase the appropriate people for the money. It only gets messy if they ignore or refuse! I think, you could also try consumer affairs in your state, they may had have some information 2 Re: Organising boundary fencing for house we are building - 3May 21, 2012 8:43 am acquire 3 quotes.. visit neighbors personally if possible... discuss quotes, indicate your preference... either the following will happen. a) Neighbors happy with quotes, sign preferred quote. b) Have a think about it.. Either way, set them a time frame to get back to you. Once quotes are signed, proceed. They have 30 days from the first quote, and then if they fail, you write a letter which gives them another 30 days. Re: Organising boundary fencing for house we are building - 4May 21, 2012 12:22 pm It's always nice to call and introduce yourself to the neighbours first and mention that you want to get fencing done. You can get your neighbours' contact details from the local council (mention you need to contact them for fencing purposes). Before you call have some quotes on hand from say 3 different fencing companies. Also you may want to discuss with the neighbours the type of fence they want and (if a timber fence) which side each of you would prefer to have facing your block. What typically will occur is that, once you agree on what is to be done, the fencing contractor will bill you and your neighbours for half of the fencing cost each so neither of you end up responsible for it all. If you have any difficulties (or difficult neighbours!) refer to the Fences Act. That contains the "forms" that you have been told about. Here's a link http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/vic/ ... /fa196867/ Also you can do a search on this forum under fencing; this topic has been covered plenty of times before. Hope that helps ask the surveyor for clarification would be the logical approach 1 15992 You should be able to encase the sewer but you will need it designed and approved and access to lot 580 to do the work 2 12643 Hello, We are about to build and the plans show a part of the exterior wall is being built on top of a limestone retaining wall.
