Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 17, 2012 3:20 pm Hey question.... if we have signed contracts etc, and at the time of the implimentation of the carbon tax we will be at slab/framing stage...... from what im gathering the builder CANNOT pass on a cost variation for CARBON TAX, is that right? does anyone know the answer, or is in the same boat? Re: anyone in the middle of building - CARBON TAX!!!! 2May 17, 2012 3:24 pm We will be in the same boat! Contacts signed, still waiting on land to title! I couldn't imagine they would be able to add the cost on though after the contact is signed! 2 Re: anyone in the middle of building - CARBON TAX!!!! 3May 17, 2012 3:32 pm On a standard HIA contract they most certainly can, but if it exceeds about 15% you can break from the contract. Re: anyone in the middle of building - CARBON TAX!!!! 5May 17, 2012 4:39 pm I have been told by my builder that cost increases due to the carbon tax have been priced into the base price with the last few price rises they had and that i would not be impacted but i am not holding my breath 2 Re: anyone in the middle of building - CARBON TAX!!!! 7May 17, 2012 7:10 pm mmm... im getting the feeling there are going to be MASSIVE drama's if people already engaged in a build start to try to get stung with extra costs that builders are claiming is via the carbon tax surely not everyone has a spare 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9- THOUSAND dollars hanging around for a post contract expense that was not accounted for... im sure this has been included by the builder as previously said, in pricing etc... Re: anyone in the middle of building - CARBON TAX!!!! 8May 17, 2012 7:15 pm In my contract there was a clause to say it would change if the carbon tax came in and changed pricing. It did not state how much things would go up but it definately was catered for. Just as well my build is coming to an end in the next few weeks.
