Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 18, 2012 2:45 pm Hi, We’re a group of post-grad students at the Swinburne National Centre for Sustainability looking at ways to help new landowners build more sustainable housing. Our trial project might be run by Cardinia Shire and find people who have either just bought land/paid a deposit but don’t have house plans yet, and “assist” them on a one to one basis, maybe through a weekend workshop with experts, or with an in home consultation with a sustainable design consultant. For the trial everything would be FREE, and independent (no sales pitches.) There’s lots of misconceptions about the costs and benefits of passive solar layout/sustainable design but we all know energy costs will skyrocket and there’s an opportunity to deal with it now when building or pay through the nose later. It might also help with resale price when “mandatory disclosure” comes in (houses will need an energy efficiency rating when they’re sold.) It’s still a proposal at this stage (six months away?), but if we could get the project up would anyone be interested? Any other suggestions/experiences would also be appreciated. Re: Just bought land in Cardinia? Help needed. 2May 18, 2012 2:47 pm Great idea. Good on you and good luck spreading the sustainable message Re: Just bought land in Cardinia? I don't want to make this sound like a sales pitch, but I would like to contribute in some way... no strings advice, or just special prices to get people on board with your project. Let me know if you are interested... all I would want is to see the results (and I live in Cardinia Shire ) BTW, we have the highest performing aluminium window for energy efficiency in Australia... Thanks "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy.
