Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 16, 2012 4:40 pm So being in the county our options are gas bottle hot water or solar electric hot water. The solar hot water system will cost us an extra $4700 to supply and install with our builder but the gas system is included how ever tw then will ahve the need of changing bottles over. We are a 2 parent 2 child (under5) family which option is best to go with? Where would i find out who supplys the systems if we supplied our own for the buolder to install Mitr 10, bunnings etx are no help:( Thankyou Re: Help with hot water system best option 2May 16, 2012 4:46 pm Hi babysaurs, We are a family of 4 building with no town gas and we have decided to go an evacuated tube solar which is electricity boosted. We did lots of research to come to this decision, and spoke to several localish solar suppliers (go yellow pages). If we had been in town we would have stuck with gas boosted as it's the most economical but being on bottled gas for our cooking already I didn't want too much reliant on that. We also will be installing solar power so that helped us to decide as well. Evacuated tubes are the more efficient way of heating up the water, so hopefully we won't need too much boosting anyway. With the extra $4700 - surely the builder can give you a partial credit for the other system they had intended to use? This is what our builder did for us, as we weren't happy with his plumbers options on HWS so sourced our own. Good luck. Re: Help with hot water system best option 3May 16, 2012 4:53 pm Thankyou for your reply! Yes i assume the builder will give us some credit but wont know that until our builder insterview how much:) What system exactyl are you getting and whats the cost? we are also haveing gas cooking:) Are there any rebates on the systems? Re: Help with hot water system best option 4May 16, 2012 4:58 pm I thought the gas solar systems did have some rebates, but they may well have expired. A solar installer or local plumbing wholesaler, Reece, tradelink etc may be able to help a well, you could also source the units from them 2 Re: Help with hot water system best option 5May 16, 2012 5:51 pm We are getting an Apricus system, the rebate we get is $792. The price we are paying is $5158 installed, this is for 30 tubes and 315 litre storage tank. It also includes a hideous stand for the tubes to get them at the right angle (pic on my blog if you want to see what the stand looks like - tubes not installed yet. Just scroll down and use the links on the right - use HWS). This price is current - we only agreed to go with them last week. We did get a cheaper price for one with 40 tubes and a slightly larger tank, but went this option as the warranty on all the parts was double the other one (7 years compared to 15 for the tubes). And seeing as we are on tank water anyway (and a bit green so very water conscious) the smaller tank size didn't bother us. the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 13775 Hi, I'd like some advice on the best option please on the estimate options we've been provided from our builder.
