Re: Ray's Adelaide build 162Apr 27, 2013 10:01 am So we powered through the selections yesterday, we took the day off and managed to do the selections for appliances, flooring, tiles and air conditioning. Funnily enough none of the tile selections were the same as last time... We're happy though, and still decided to splash out on a feature wall for the ensuite. Here's the tile we chose for the back wall, and we'll use a light grey grout to match the floor tile. 600x300 horizontal tiles for the rest of the ensuite. Oh yeah, here is the floorplan too Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My building thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=56583&start=120 Re: Ray's Adelaide build 164Apr 27, 2013 2:30 pm _lucinda Where do you go for your tiles, CluelessOne? We had a couple of options but these are from Italia Ceramics. Their service was great too. I would just change the door for master to open like they do on downton abbey...becomes a privacy door, seeing that hall will be used by a lot of people and it's nice no one can see in the bedroom etc or if you are reading on the bed, no one can really see! Just my opinion though, each to their own, we have them on 4 bedrooms ( they dont open into the wall, but the other way) and they are such a great way to give people privacy. Our Master bed didn't need it. Well done though, looks good. Re: Ray's Adelaide build 166Apr 27, 2013 3:42 pm love your plans Ray. We had our selections at Italia ceramics also and found them to be great to deal with. when do you hope to start your build? Re: Ray's Adelaide build 167Apr 27, 2013 8:35 pm Good job there Ray-and I agree with Kiwi re: the Master Door. It has been a process filled with drama, to the point that I was ready to give up on the whole thing even before building had been started! The plans that we submitted to council sat with them for two months, and then we were notified that they had been rejected! WTF?! Several phone calls and meetings with the builder and council they were not backing down... time to call in some external help from a highly experienced planner and transport engineer (its all about who you know huh!), and finally, with a couple of concessions they have said they will let us build. Woo! So the final selections appointment is booked in, and hopefully we will have started breaking ground some time in October. All this after we originally had hopes of being in before Christmas this year. Why do we do this to ourselves again? Most of our selections have remained the same this time, but I'm having real trouble deciding on an external colour. Because of the odd shape of the frontage I cant draw it up and play with colours - and have nothing to directly compare it to. We have decided on caoba dawn for the garage door and will have a stained front door and feature timber windows to the front to match. I just cant decide on whether to make the colour (the house will be painted all the way around as its hebel) more grey or brown. It is doing my head in... A beige will be complementary, but the grey will give a contrast. Try some of the online style tools just to see how the colours look together. Re: Ray's Adelaide build 171Sep 12, 2013 11:42 pm We had quite a light colour on our last house and I was quite sick of it after a while. I'd like something a little stronger, either a grey or brown. I like the look of Taubmans 'cookie jar' and maybe 'showroom' though I find myself changing opinions very frequently. I also recently discovered encycolorpedia... Paralysis by analysis has well and truly set in! Paralysis by analysis has well and truly set in! I've spent hours there. Re: Ray's Adelaide build 173Sep 30, 2013 5:27 pm Council approval is officially through. Woo. Now the daunting task of finalising selections and signing that final contract... we might actually get to build this thing afterall! My building thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=56583&start=120 Re: Ray's Adelaide build 176Feb 21, 2014 2:16 pm Ho...ly...crap.... I can't believe the last time I posted on this thread was September. We must have the slowest build in human history! So the progress is that we have a final contract, finance approved, and work has commenced on site... that only took two years The latest event in this dramatic saga is our site works. We had the slab cut out (all the way down to 1200mm), plastic down, steel in, and ready for the slab to be poured last Wednesday, that was put off for a day due to 43 degree temperature. Then comes Thursday and Friday - the single biggest downpour of rain in nearly 50 years. W T F ?!?! As a consequence our trenches all caved in, and now have to be re-filled... and then dug out all over again. Apparently we are going to have to wear some of the cost for that too. So the 100 tonnes of soil gets delivered to the site today, then we start the site works all over again. At least this only puts the schedule back another two weeks or so. That's nothing with what we've gone through thus far. Let's just hope all the issues are done and dusted before the actual building starts so at least that part can go smoothly! Fancy copping those extremes of weather at just the wrong time - it has been awful hasn't it? Good luck with the slab when it does go down! Looking forward to this one finally starting! Thanks McLaren. To say that I'm keen to get this completed would be a massive understatement. Don't forget while all this drama has unfolded I've been living in a 3x3m room in my MIL's house with my wife and two kids for the last 9 months!!! Re: Ray's Adelaide build 180Feb 21, 2014 3:12 pm How difficult that must have been. Hopefully the weather will stay clear long enough to get your slab, frame and roof done. After that they can work inside if the weather is bad outside. Building a new home, and looking for a garage builder (home builder not contracted to do this). Someone to build steel garage (double), colorbond, including supply and… 0 1935 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 8 2234 thank you! do we need to get this or our builder before we commence new build on the block? 2 4419 |
