Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 15, 2012 1:42 pm By popular demand... ok so one person suggested it here is the start of what I am sure will be a verrrry long thread on my build. So far, I am still deciding on a plan to fit on our awkward shaped block. Discussion on the plan so far can be seen in the custom build thread, pages 62-67. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=33027&start=1220 and so it continues... Welcome to Home One ... For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Ray's Adelaide build 11May 15, 2012 3:22 pm funny how no newbies want to join us!!! i have no idea why?? Re: Ray's Adelaide build 14May 15, 2012 3:43 pm I just read through those pages on the custom design thread to catch up. I just have one comment on the idea to have the garden in the middle of the house and build a "pavilion style" house around it. In our initial ideas we considered having a "pavilion style" design and put a lot of time and effort into this (with the help of many here on H1). We took these plans to a few builders and unfortunately it turned out that none of the builders liked these ideas much as it creates difficulties with the engineering (especially the slab and the roof line) and the building. Therefore if you do find someone to do it, they will charge you a lot extra for it. Estimates on our plans were 50k to 100k extra over the price for a more compact house! So before you take that idea too far it might be worthwhile considering if your budget allows for this! Good luck with your design. You are certainly in good hands here. The ideas that people come up with in these discussions are amazing and will help you get a great design for your house. We have a good builder (we hope) so I'll give him a quick call and see what he thinks it will do to the cost. An extra 50k+ is going to be prohibitive, I'd rather use the money on getting a few of the finer things in and around the house (like a nice home automation and AV system if the wife'll let me Thanks! You would then have a smaller hallway with one entrance to access both minor bedrooms & bathroom.....bigger bedrooms has to be a win! Kids rooms will be hot in summer on west. Better to have parents on west as they go to bed later at night..... Re: Ray's Adelaide build 18May 15, 2012 4:12 pm Or that! It still means a small amount of separation, and that the bathroom doesnt come off the main entry hallway (which was also a big issue for us). If we go with that design, we'll definitely be making that change! We just have to decide whether we're going to hog the morning sun, or give that to the kids My building thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=56583&start=120 Re: Ray's Adelaide build 20May 15, 2012 4:14 pm How early do you want them up?
