As for the other build, I just wanted to give the OP a hug , it's amazing the amount of crap that can happen in such a short timeframe during a build! Very clever use of clerestories where usual windows are blocked by rooms (in that thread the garage, in Clueless's design, the study). Thanks Clueless - lots of light is the idea. Roof is (supposed) to be going on Saturday so I will take more pics for you without light from overhead. We would have liked to find a builder's plan to suit but they don't seem to cater for the end-of-court blocks very much We ended up designing our own house completely but it has taken a long while and hopefully we will see site works in the next few weeks. I have pm'ed a link to one of the only designs I found that was anywhere near suitable (due to the position of the garage). It may help you with some design ideas. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Ray's Adelaide build 71May 17, 2012 3:00 pm Thanks DCT, some good ideas in that plan too. I'm particularly interested in what room to put up next to the garage and how best to make use of the entry without wasting too much floorspace. If you put the study where I have Bed 2 and then push bath & beds to the far right of that section it would give more balanced space to play with IYKWIM? I can't help thinking the kitchen/family room area should be closer to the garage ... that's a long walk with bags of groceries and also visitors have to walk down a long hall to get to the "action" ... My sister's house has a long dark hall and I hate it ... you are limited with space but you obviously want some pizzazz and a bit of wow .... My sister's house has a long dark hall and I hate it ... you are limited with space but you obviously want some pizzazz and a bit of wow .... Ha! Annette - I was just thinking that too. It is a very long corridor. That design that Clueless just posted look very good. You could just push the living area along (so the back of the family was in line with Bed 3, which would give you court yard space for northern light. This one is very hard! Re: Ray's Adelaide build 77May 17, 2012 3:53 pm Hey - I just remembered a lovely design for long narrow blocks that we really like with Masterton. The Urban: http://www.masterton.com.au/Portals/0/P ... /Urban.pdf See what you think. You would have to put the garage on the other side, but the principle is to have all living along one side and bedrooms on the other. That could definitely improve your light issues as well as less wasted corridor space, and faster access to living areas. It doesn't waste as much space in the entrance as the other one you posted either. We saw this house on display and loved it. Re: Ray's Adelaide build 79May 17, 2012 4:47 pm It's actually very similar to the design of house we live in now (we designed it ourselves before that long style was really seen much in display homes... now it's everywhere!). The limitation of the house as it's designed at the moment is the limited indoor/outdoor space. We have a courtyard out the side which we access via double doors opposite the kitchen, and that gets used regularly. The thing we dont like is that things never seem to spread out to the backyard. Part of this is the way we have landscaped etc, but we'd really like one big open area, hence the big open living at the back. I'd like to put a window above the front door to shine some light down the length of the hall and make it not so dark, but the long dark hall is always a bit of a concern... maybe this would be a good idea (until some birds leave 'presents' for us that is! : Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My building thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=56583&start=120 Building a new home, and looking for a garage builder (home builder not contracted to do this).
