For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Ray's Adelaide build 184Feb 22, 2014 2:54 pm The girls are coming to see my house!! Slightly excited!!! They arrive next weekend . We are also renting a house in the bay of islands for 3 nights and 2 in Auckland . Whaooaoao! Re: Ray's Adelaide build 185Mar 10, 2014 7:19 am CluelessOne Ho...ly...crap.... The latest event in this dramatic saga is our site works. We had the slab cut out (all the way down to 1200mm), plastic down, steel in, and ready for the slab to be poured last Wednesday, that was put off for a day due to 43 degree temperature. Then comes Thursday and Friday - the single biggest downpour of rain in nearly 50 years. W T F ?!?! As a consequence our trenches all caved in, and now have to be re-filled... and then dug out all over again. Apparently we are going to have to wear some of the cost for that too. Hows it going now? Did they get the slab all laid second time around? Re: Ray's Adelaide build 186Mar 13, 2014 1:40 pm Slab poured today!!!!!! Progress, sweet progress at last! Re: Ray's Adelaide build 191Mar 14, 2014 12:43 pm I went out there last night and they were still finishing it off so no photos unfortunately. I'll go over and take some on the weekend. I did talk to one of the concreters who said this is one of the most painful jobs he's done in a long time. Putting in all the extra thick Rio, then standing in waterlogged clay soil to pull it all back out again... only to put it back in... Then we had an extraordinary amount of concrete to pour in there too. You can imagine a single story four bedroom home with all trenches cut to a depth of 1200mm. He looked pretty tired. So the plan is I'm going to do some time lapse photography for the start of the build. Set my tripod up at the same spot and take a pic once a week (hopefully) - see how it'll turn out. Don't worry about a lack of pics on this thread. Now that there is some progress you'll all be bombarded with them. I know you're all pic piggies like me - you love it! Hopefully slab delay will be the only bump. Re: Ray's Adelaide build 193Mar 15, 2014 6:09 am CluelessOne Then we had an extraordinary amount of concrete to pour in there too. What type of soil are you building on? Ours are also 1200 deep but its a double storey house with clay soil and big tree roots so was classed as a problem site. Good news its all progressing now! Re: Ray's Adelaide build 194Mar 15, 2014 7:16 am Good luck with the build. It is such a mile stone when the footing finally down. Interested to know how going with ADH interested in building with them. Our footings say 900 deep and we had terrible soil but no fill. Why were your footings so deep?. Look forward to hearing from you. Hope all is well Re: Ray's Adelaide build 196Jun 17, 2014 10:07 am Sorry I missed your post bluesteel, been pretty busy lately and haven't checked in much. To answer your question, things have been going really well. We has some hiccups in the beginning which has meant this has been a reeeeeaaaaalllly long build, but since the slab was poured we've been moving ahead at a good pace and everything has been done to a good standard thus far. As for the foundations, we're in the eastern suburbs (Newton) and the soil is horrible up there, with a reasonably large slab they wanted to make sure the chances of movement were reduced as much as possible. I had the footings looked at by an independent civil engineer (who I work with) who said they were at the top end but not over-engineered for the sake of squeezing out more money As progress has been quick, I have a few photos to share. Hopefully next week I'll be back with all the kitchen cabinets installed, and a start on the wet area tiling too! Looks like we'll be in before the end of August now (touch wood)... What a pantry!!!! Great stuff For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Ray's Adelaide build - NEED DESIGN HELP! 200Jul 09, 2014 12:35 pm A call for opinions please. We'er into the last two days of tiling and need to make a decision about the grout colour for our ensuite feature wall. You can see the pics of the 'bubble' tile a couple of posts up, and we now have to decide whether to go for white or grey grout. Pros and cons as I see them: White grout brings out the natural variation of the tiles and their pearl like finish - you cant see this with the grey grout but of course it does make the circles stand out a whole lot more. All the walls of the ensuite are full height tiled with large format rectified white tiles - will more white wash it out or highlight the difference in the tiles??? (the floor tiles are grey, also as seen above, which would be more or less the same shade as the grey grout) It is a whole wall, will it be too much visually with the darker grout? Will the white grout be too difficult to keep looking pristine? aargh! To give you all a reference, here is what the tiles look like with white grout: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ more examples can be found by googling 'firenze tile' As a side note, I can't find anywhere that has used grey grout with these tiles... maybe that says something.
