Love this!! And what ah.....noise factor would you be referring to =P Re: Ray's Adelaide build 56May 16, 2012 5:59 pm CluelessOne What are people's views on the courtyard. I think a smaller one will be fine as it probably won't be used as a functional area, but what is wide enough to get amount amount of light in? And yes kiwi, that makes perfect good sense! Back to your original plan, and in response to query above, I would definitely shrink or move the study completely to give a bigger courtyard there for sure. Not just more light, but also space to put a feature / greenery to look onto rather than study wall which would not be ideal. Then you wouldn't need clerestories (as you said roofline problem) because a bigger courtyard will give you more light. Otherwise you will still have a lot of shadow from the study. Given the difficult block, you may as well try to prioritise at least that living area to get good light. Second idea is to drop that double hallway. If you play around with that space, can you move the study somewhere else entirely then? That's really the only reason it's there. Might have to see what we can do with a skillion roof and some clerestory windows. If I can find a way to make that work with a facade the boss will be happy with, that'd be an ideal solution... You would be mad to lose the courtyard as you will definitely be in shade and cold. Do you have Google Sketch Up? It is free and a great program to do 3D drawings of houses where you then switch on the sunlight (and you can choose at different times of the day and seasons). It really shows how much light you get and when. Then moving the laundry and master bed (apparently now known st the thumpy squeally room ) down to the western side. I think I need to play with the dimensions again to see what will fit. Re: Ray's Adelaide build 59May 16, 2012 6:11 pm Oh cool, thanks T. I just downloaded it but haven't had much of a play with it yet. I know what I'll be doing tonight after the kids are down! You can turn the house around, walk around and over to get all dimensions. And excellent for seeing where the shade falls. That should give you the best indication of how much space you need there. My avatar was drawn up with Google Sketch Up. Good luck!
