Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 10, 2012 10:35 pm Hi, We have researched a bit amongst Rawson, Allcastle and Beechwood. Were quite confused initially. Found Rawson with a few good upgrades but very confused since they keep adding stuff like H class slab, council req etc which we do not know much about. ANy recommendations for Rawson homes? Do they negotiate on prices? They are quite keen on changing plans as per our needs but we need few recommendations/comments. Thanks ! Re: Building with Rawson 2May 11, 2012 5:48 am We're in the pre-construction phase with Rawson. The addition of the H-Class slab will be determined by a geotech report done independantly, H class is considered to be a highly reactive soil. So if R are including it, then Beechwood & Allcastle will add it in later on. We found their inclusions to be really good quality, we didn't change our plans at all, but some people have. Our experience so far with Rawson has been positive and trouble free. We have found them to be very honest about everything. Built the Seaview 36 with Rawson Homes - Read about it on my blog http://lamaisondemorgan.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Building with Rawson 3May 14, 2012 9:16 am hi sugar...we are building with Rawson homes and like smorgzzz are in pre-construction stage...although we are only a small way into it all I honestly couldn't recomend Rawson enough...yes their intial price is higher but heir standards, inclusion and upgrade deals are fantastic and their main seller is the guarantee of no hidden extra costs. Once u except the tender any additional $$$ after that is not your problem...as far as I know they dont negotiate on price, but if u get a good sales guy like we have at Minto, his (-) button works really well on his calculator and complimentry is also a fav word of his . Which home and where are you looking at building???? Re: Building with Rawson 4May 14, 2012 10:41 am Hi sugar We are building with Rawson and have found their inclusions to be pretty good. We made a fair few changes to our plans and actually got credits for some of the changes which I didnt expect. Nothing was too hard for them to do Good luck with it all My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Building with Rawson 6May 14, 2012 8:25 pm We've just gotten Very Serious about a Rawson home; in our case it's mostly a Chifley, although which Chifley it's most like will depend on the results of the modifications we asked-for and how they pan-out WRT land area. We started the ball rolling on the tender on Saturday, and I'm very eagerly awaiting the first set of draftsperson measurements!! Re: Building with Rawson 8May 15, 2012 9:18 am sugar99 Thanks guys.. we also did a few changes and was quite easy for them... will def. go with them... I have changed my mind and our plans/additions a fair bit and it has never been a problem they r fantastic... where are u building??? Re: Building with Rawson 10May 15, 2012 5:41 pm belle n dave we started our tender process on Sat too...where are u building??? Ryde for us ... wee little block, though, so we're sorta waiting for their shoehorning-folk to tell us what can actually fit ... sounds like you're probably ahead of us because you actually know what you want to build but don't know how much it'll cost, whereas we know what we'd like to build (well OK there may still be one minor argument outstanding ) but don't yet know how much it needs to have it's belt tightened in order to fit ... Re: Building with Rawson 11May 16, 2012 9:00 am Forg: well I hope yr sales guy is as good as ours, was a real shock to see a sales rep who actually knew where the minus button on his calculator was We were pretty brutual (well huby was) when it came to whqt we wanted nad how much we were going to pay for it all, we just pout it all out there and said now how can u help...they were great (minto sales team) and so far we couldn be happier, other tan the land actually being registered and the thumbs up given to start the build Enjoy yr ride, will be looking forward to following yr build... Re: Building with Rawson 13May 16, 2012 1:58 pm Well, we like the guy (we're dealing with someone from Kellyville), but getting information out seems to be like pulling teeth at this stage. We're asking some fairly difficult questions, this is true, but when it's something we're so excited about it's a bit frustrating to be told we'd be contacted on Monday and then told some dude was sick so we'd be contacted on Tuesday and now it's Wednesday and my wife & I are in disagreement about where we want to move rooms and voids etc etc to but we can't settle the issue because we don't have any indication of whether our original request is even possible! It's not even the fact that we've not been given an answer that's frustrating; it's more that we've not been told when an answer might be coming ... we're permanently holding our breath! It sounds like most of you guys weren't asking quite so many fundamental technical questions (in terms of how much we can shoe-horn onto the block legally & whether the requested mods are financially-sensible - eg "does moving this wall inwards over the top of the wall underneath make the house easier/cheaper to build because we don't feel we're losing anything if we do that") ... so I can certainly understand the reason for a delay, the problem's more because we didn't expect a delay. I reckon the 9-month delay which will undoubtedly occur when for some reason or other we have to go through council will actually be less of an issue (because it's expected) than the current 1.5-day delay ... Re: Building with Rawson 14May 17, 2012 2:09 pm sixor We also dealt with the sales team at Minto. He was extremely professional & very helpful. Managed to get a little off too where are you building??? Re: Building with Rawson 15May 19, 2012 9:04 pm Hi, As you can see from my signature we are supposed to be building with Mcdonald Jones, however, the local council has done a backflip this week and now we might not be able to build the large single storey house we wanted and so now looking at double storey houses. Met with Rawson today, are pretty happy with the sales person. Very helpful and friendly and spent quite a long time going through the houses with us explaining what was standard and what was not. What houses is everyone looking at building? At this stage we are looking at a Fernside 28, however, it is a little over our budget (which keeps growing all the time) Modified Fernside 38 Rawson Homes Blog: http://www.thehousethatmatandjenbuilt.blogspot.com Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60501 Re: Building with Rawson 16May 19, 2012 9:07 pm We are building the Benham 33 My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Building with Rawson 17May 20, 2012 10:27 am Quote: We are building the Benham 33 This is what we were thinking about as well, but we want a 5th bedroom plus a study. It adds on to the top of it as an option. And there is already a study on the first floor..
