Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 08, 2012 11:58 pm Hi... We have just purchased a 2.5 Acre Elevated block in Baldivis Western Australia. Were very excited to get a new home... But unsure where to start and finding a Extra large country styled home. We do like the Plunkett Millbride Manor and The Avon lodge, tho would need to add extra rooms and change layout to suit our block. Any suggestions would be great Thank you Sonny Re: New Home 2May 09, 2012 9:45 am Hi there Sonny There are a few of us on here building in Baldivis...so welcome to the neighbourhood! I know Dale Alcock do a few country style homes, Shelford homes, Gemmill homes...quite a few of them do! I love the living and terrace area of the Millbridge, itis a gorgeous area, but the bedrooms look small and quite squashy compared to that living space. Tha Avon Lodge has a more practical layout, evenly spaced, but doesn't look like it has a WOW factor. What are your needs for your house? How many bedrooms? How many living areas? Where do you want things positioned? eg do you want main bedroom isolated from bedrooms and with a view? Kitchen near a window or in the middle of the house? Oh I remember seeing an absolutely gorgeous home at the Honeywood Display, it had gorgeous wallpaper in one room (that is why I remember it so much!)...let me find it. http://www.trhomes.com.au/homes/grevillea-grove The Jarrah View in their range also looks nice, different layout. You might also want to look at getting it custom made. Goodluck choosing! Re: New Home 3May 09, 2012 11:52 am Hi Sonny, Welcome to the forum As Vans mentioned there are quiet a few builders who build country/farmhouse style homes. In addition to those already mentioned there are Ventura, C0ntent Living and Rural Building Co. We have just over an acre in Bedfordale and are building a large country style home with Gemmill, however it isn't one of their standard designs. A lot of the country style plans offered by builders are fairly similar and we couldn't find an existing house plan that really suited what we wanted so decided to design our own incorporating features we had liked from quiet a few different house plans. We were not charged a design fee by Gemmill for having a custom plan drawn up and I'm pretty sure a lot of the others won't charge either. We also priced up making changes to existing plans from some of the other builders (moving rooms around & making the house bigger overall) and it worked out far cheaper for us to design one from scratch. We were originally going to build a standard plan from another builder but designing our own with Gemmill has given us much more bang for our buck We have ended up with a much bigger house (467m2 overall, 300m2 living) for A LOT less than what the other one was going to cost. Good luck with it all Our custom Gemmill Home in Bedfordale WA Build thread:https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53788 Timeline on page 1 Re: New Home 4May 10, 2012 11:16 pm Thanks... Their plans are different to everyone else's. We didn't want a suburban looking home for the country so that was why we chose WABC... also because we saw the quality of their work by visiting 2 sites, and heard good recommendations from the owners. One site was near to handing over the key and the owner of the second had just moved in 2 weeks before. We've also heard good things about Gemmill, but preferred the unique features of the WABC homes. And keep in mind that any builder will do a custom plan for you, based on an existing one you like!
