Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 08, 2012 9:04 pm Hi, I'm looking to do a soil test before signing a contract with any builder. Some of the forum posts recommend that I do this on my own, without going through a developer, and the cost seems to be a few hundred (a few years ago): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10733 Can anyone recommend a few companies that do this, or what would I search for in the yellow pages? Thanks. Re: Soil testing 2May 08, 2012 9:22 pm Its probably going to be less than $1000 now for a typical single storey house. Google "Site + Geotechnical" I used A company called Structural Works In Baldwyn Vic who seemed OK. A contour survey might be the other thing of interested in case there is any slope on your block. Re: Soil testing 6May 09, 2012 12:53 pm snowing Soil test is around 400~500. This - if there is a noticeable slope on your block this will be very useful when shopping around with builders. Ours was $454 + GST The only other thing that we obtained was an identification survey - as the original subdivision of our block occurred in the 1950's we wanted to make sure that the existing boundaries hadn't been encroached upon. Highly recommend if you are building in an established area (e.g. knock down) I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 13106 We were lucky in that our old house was so small (86 square metres) compared to the new house, they were able to take enough readings around the old backyard house before… 8 37159 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair I'm in WA and our sandy soils make drainage a bit easier but this is what I'd be doing.
