Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 08, 2012 2:56 pm I really don't know what to put up in our master bedroom. 3 tall narrow windows on one wall (2 of which are louvres) and a sliding door on another wall. Piccies below are a bit out of date but at least give an idea. Main bedroom from outside showing the 3 windows and sliding door opening onto alfresco http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff435/RuthnPhil/P1040360.jpg Taken from inside - 2 of the 3 windows, please ignore the innovative ensuite approach. http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff435/RuthnPhil/P1040395.jpg Don't know whether to go with 3 blinds and 3 pelmets or just one pelmet or curtains or or or? Also what about the sliding door - what's best in a bedroom. All suggestions and/or pictures greatly welcomed. The good thing about the windows (or mine at least) is they are a standard size so you can buy a readymade blind which should fit inside the window frame for mounting (bonus: they are cheap!). Another positive is you can just open one blind or two if you want less light or a bit of privacy over one side of the room. Another option is Roman blinds. Downside; they will have to be custom made and are more expensive. Upside; they look pretty and you could get a matching blind for the door. For the sliding door you have a few other options; panel gliders in particular seem to be quite popular. Particularly if you will be using the door often this would be a good option as they are easy to open part of the way so you can get in/out easily. Most other types of blind (eg venetian, Roman, roller etc) are hung at the top of the window and thus have to pulled all of the way up (or at least to head height) so you can get in or out of the door. However it looks like you probably won't have to use the door all that often (as there is another access to the al fresco area) so you could probably go for what you like the look of more than what is practical. Good luck Re: Help with window dressings please 3May 08, 2012 4:24 pm As you have louvres you might be better off with one pelmet and curtains ... we have sheers which is great if you need privacy and they won't impede your louvres ... then you could have curtains for your sliding door as well to tie in. Would be nice and cosy .. this is our retreat and we have the same in the bedroom Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Help with window dressings please 4May 08, 2012 7:07 pm My immediate thought is privacy rollers on each of the 3 windows-with a full width pelmet on both that wall and the slider-with curtains that cover the whole section when closed. That way when they are open you can access the windows individually as required-and when closed would give your bedroom a luxurious feel. Dee, I love your suggestion and was explaining this to hubby while we were up at the house this morning. He promptly announced that he hates curtains and doesn't want any in this house. So I think it will be roller blinds on the windows and probably panel glides on the sliding door. My only concern with the roller blinds is that the ones we've had before always let light in around the edge and I do like a dark room to sleep in. So which is best to minimize the light - fitted inside the cavity or fitted above the cavity? Curtains are the best thermal insulators in the winter-so much cosier! Doesn't he know the adage " Happy wife, happy life?" Re: Help with window dressings please 8May 09, 2012 2:53 pm all blinds let light in, we have a roller blind, sheers on a track drapes and a pelmet. I cant stand light on the bedroom. We started with the blind and sheers and the light killed me. So we had drapes made yo go over the top. Re: Help with window dressings please 9May 09, 2012 6:47 pm I put curtains on all the sliding doors - much more practical than blinds esp in the bedroom to maybe close part way. I will be having a mix of blinds and shutters on the other windows when the finances recover - curtains are expensive!! (maybe I might just have expensive tastes in curtains!) Re: Help with window dressings please 11May 09, 2012 9:54 pm I have 3 different companies coming out on Fri & Mon to give us ideas and quotes. With any luck they will suggest curtains as the best option and then help me "persuade" hubby! Our curtains r all in white or cream. I kept them as plain as possible. But picked the best fabric. We did the privacy blinds in charcoal as the darker the better. Can c outside but cannot c in from outside. We have antique white walls and lots of white and charcoal throughout the house so the cream curtains look great. Re: Help with window dressings please 13May 14, 2012 11:53 am Well, guess what - we've meet with 2 of the 3 suppliers and after similar discussions inevitably we both like the idea of the most expensive option - plantation shutters of course! The only challenge is that 2 of the tall windows in the bedroom are louvre and the handle to open / close them sticks out a long way. So if we have shutters they will need to be "boxed out" quite a way from the wall. So we're mulling this over. Seeing a third supplier on site this afternoon so will be interested to see what they think. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7165 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits.
