Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 07, 2012 12:45 am Hi there!
We emigrated to Oz last year and have now decided to plant some firm roots by having a house built for us down in Lakelands (WA), after traipsing around what seemed like a million different display homes we ended up back at one of the first we went too, and have decided to get a modified version of the house built on our plot of land down there. We have a 691m2 plot so we had the design altered to make the most of the land and leave us the room we require to add the other bits we want, i.e. a pool and an area for some raised beds. Here are the plans, we are off to the pre-start meeting this week, and have everything decided but the extra electrical points and the lighting layout - any suggestions are welcome! I'm having bed 4! Do you not want lights over your breakfast bar? I noticed there was no light on the plan. Also have a light above your mirror (side of mirror?) on each vanity. Otherwise your face is in shade re doing make up if the light is above you and behind you. If that makes sense. Plan looks good, all the best!! Re: Canterbury (Modified) 3May 07, 2012 8:05 am Ps we have the bath in our ensuite with sep shower. Love it!! My private retreat! Re: Canterbury (Modified) 4May 07, 2012 12:13 pm Great plan ... the bulkheads will look great!! For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Being a bloke, I hadn't considered the make up factor but I am sure Lucy will want them so I will add them into the electrical design! Bedroom 4 has been specifically set as far away from the rest so that when relatives stay they don't get under our feet! Re: Canterbury (Modified) 6May 08, 2012 12:00 am Mclaren Great plan ... the bulkheads will look great!! Must admit, I did have to look bulkheads up onhere to see what you were on about! Re: Canterbury (Modified) 7May 11, 2012 12:35 am Hi again! Well we are prepared now for pre-start in the morning, with our choices finalized, and we have went through our plans thinking were we wanted sockets and lights etc. We have been told by everyone we know to put in as many power sockets as possible as you do not want to be doing it afterwards! Our changes are in the linked picture below, it comes to around 40 extra sockets (power + blanks for cables) so that should cater for our needs. We have also taken out various lights and replaced them junction boxes so we can get someone in to fit down lighters once the build is complete (the blue boxes!) Any thoughts on the plan would be greatly appreciated Cheers Al Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Canterbury (Modified) 8May 11, 2012 8:37 am ...A two way switch so lights from main living area can be switched on/off near the rear hallway entrance for bedrooms 2/3/4. And definitely a light over the kitchen island. Great plans Al. Re: Canterbury (Modified) 9Jul 16, 2012 12:38 am Well we settled on things in the last few hours of the financial year, and since then things have started moving along. Last Friday a text message informed us that some work had been done on our land, and then a call from CL told us our slab (weather depending) will go down this Friday coming! So we had to go down to our site for a look, and yes some work has been done! Re: Building the Canterbury with CL in WA *work started!* 12Jul 17, 2012 8:45 am A portaloo has turned up on site, hopefully the workers will be following it! Re: Building the Canterbury with CL in WA *work started!* 13Jul 17, 2012 11:28 am Great design I look forward to following your build........ have you thought of changing the entrance to your WIR tho to the other end for ease of use? Closer access from bathroom etc? Re: Building the Canterbury with CL in WA *work started!* 14Jul 21, 2012 12:57 am Things have moved on again, we got a slab yesterday! Off to see the site in the morning Re: Building the Canterbury with CL in WA *Walls progressing 16Aug 26, 2012 9:16 pm Think its time we updated this thread! A few more weeks have gone by since the slab went down, and following a tip of from a friend that bricks had been delivered we decided to go down and visit the bricks to make sure they were the right colour etc. Good job they were as the builders were building the walls with them when we got there! August 4th - Builders are on site and building our house! Had a chat to them all seem like decent blokes and bought them a slab of beer to 'grease the cogs' They were disappointed they had not done more but the weather hadn't been to good for a few days. Most of the outside walls are up (no front yet!) and they have started to build the internal walls.
