Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 06, 2012 7:41 pm We are putting up our brick fence weather permitting, it should be finished tomorrow. The bricklayers I have for this job gave me a phone estimate of 85c a brick and $82 a pier. On thursday they told me they are charging a day rates because there was a bit of messing about putting some horizontal spans or reo tied onto the verticals that are already there. the rates are $400 per brickie plus $300 for the labourer which should come to about $5500. So I do my sums. I worked out we had $3500 bricks delivered and I have 10 columns. So I come to a figure of $4174 ( inclusive of GST) tying the reo together should take no longer than 1 hour so add on $110, and I figure $4300 is fair. This leaves a difference of $1200 in terms or what they want and what I expect. Tomorrow should be interesting when they expect payment and dont think they'll take my protests lightly but I dont want to be taken for a ride. what do others think is fair? Re: advice needed with Bricklayers fees 4May 07, 2012 10:00 pm Did they tell you about the day rate before they began the work or halfway through the job. If it was before commencement you are sort of stuck but if they changed it halfway through the job that is a bit rich. The brickie should have allowed for that stuff before they quoted your job, even if he got onsite and thought there was going to be an issue he could have told you there maybe an additional cost due to XYZ Re: advice needed with Bricklayers fees 5May 10, 2012 5:54 pm I discussed the matter with the brickie. Their argument was as it's a small job they are charging a day rate rather than a per brick rate. I told them it's a bit much changing the rules after they had started, and that they inspected the site and had the plans before they started. In the end I paid what they wanted, but once bitten twice shy. Is it just a report written to give to the bank initially and it is based on what and how your payments are made up for, or is it a full service where they go out and… 2 5541 0 17028 Hi All, I engaged a tradie to install concrete retaining wall 600-800mm high over 32 meters in Victoria.
