Unfortunately my covenant does not allow Timber Retaining walls. So I am wondering what is the next cheapest option. Both walls are gonna be 500mm high and about 10m long. I built mine with sandstone roughs, 25tonne of rock cost $1300 cash and had access to a bobcat for free to build the wall. Depending on what look you're after, and what resources you have available to you will depend on what sort of wall you end up with. You could probably get away with a wall, say 2 retaining blocks high, 400mm and then batter the ground level up to the 500mm mark and plant it out. We did this and also our pool pavers and all up saved over $3000 on full retail!
