Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 02, 2012 8:25 pm Hi there - Wondering what colour people have on their eaves? I am curious if anyone has decided to go any colour other than white? (In a nutshell, we are taking a bit of a risk with our non-conventional colours - all darker colours such as Dulux Swampy moroka paint, Woodlands Grey windows / roof etc. and Austral Slate Grey bricks with darkened mortar). Anyway, I was wondering whether white eaves would be too much of a contrast? Especially as I am reluctant to add another colour to the external colour scheme... Does everyone have white (as I am expecting)? What colour are your eaves? External colours 2May 02, 2012 9:15 pm Hi T: I think white would be too bright and in your face for the rest of your colour scheme. Maybe you could do 1/8 or 1/4 strength of swampy and see how that fits. I like Pebble Bay by Taubmans. It's very 'Dune' looking. Maybe a half strength of that??? Re: What colour r your EAVES? External colours 3May 02, 2012 9:48 pm Remember the T Model ford? Well its the same with eaves you can have any colour as long as its white! @builderforlife Building inspector and passionate about construction When you need an expert to take a look. Re: What colour r your EAVES? External colours 4May 02, 2012 10:05 pm My colour schedule had a tickbox for eaves saying "white" lol Re: What colour r your EAVES? External colours 5May 02, 2012 10:25 pm I didn't think I had a choice, A just said white eaves but when they came to painting them, I had an email asking what colour from Matt. I love the white it looks so fresh, if you were going to have a colour I would look at the colour wheel and see what is the lightest colour that is on the wheel with swampy and then 1/4 strength it. Re: What colour r your EAVES? External colours 6May 02, 2012 10:44 pm we didn't have a choice...it is broken stone. it is not white, just off...apparently good to hide dirt that you get outside. By looking at it, it looks white. but compared to our "designer white" door frames, it is not white! I haven't seen eaves of any colour other than whitish! Re: What colour r your EAVES? External colours 7May 03, 2012 8:21 am I had off white in my last house, will have similar in my new house that l am building,l think it takes the starkness (if that's a word)away. Re: What colour r your EAVES? External colours 8May 03, 2012 10:53 am Our old house had blue eaves! I was just thinking yesterday that dark eaves might look good as we have monument roof/gutter with monument-painted cladding underneath on the top storey. I really like timber-clad eaves and that is fairly dark. Our interior designer said lots of people like to do the eves the same colour as interior ceiling so there is continuity when you're looking out the window, but we ave chosen o do ours in Haymes Calm, same as our ground floor render as I thought white would look too stark. Re: What colour r your EAVES? External colours 9May 03, 2012 10:54 am Hi T, we have Merino eaves to tie in with the Merino fascia, windows and downpipes .... looks great For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: What colour r your EAVES? External colours 10May 03, 2012 8:11 pm Thanks guys! From responses there are a few people who have tried different colours. That idea of doing the same as internal is interesting - for continuity. We have two alfresco areas so I can why the same colour (white) would have continuity from inside to out. But I am pretty much edging towards a version of Swampy now (1/4 maybe - no idea how you choose which strength you want?). Many builders do just have white as default, but we can choose with ours so I might just go out on a limb and steer away from white. McLaren - is Merino a non-white? I would love to see a photo? kjag - I am with you, timber clad eaves can look great. Thanks again everyone for your responses. Hi Vess - vexed by eaves again (as it turns out our colour scheme is more blended and darker than we had imagine). So thinking now about your suggestion of 1/8 Swampy... This is from the Stratco website. I'm currently tossing up between the two colours for our deck roof and some other external bits and pieces. Renovating our 1970s home Re: What colour r your EAVES? External colours 16May 27, 2012 8:25 am Dreamer - what colours are you thinking? You wouldn't do all the underside external ceiling and eaves the same colour? Well, a bit of a turn around. After deciding on 1/4 Swampy, then thinking that was too dark so considering 1/8 Swampy, we decided that might look 'dirty' (which was a good suggestion of gogo's), so we have no reverted to traditional standard white eaves! After all that back to the beginning... SunshineT's Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34585 Designs start: 4/12/09 DA: 5/7/11 Demo: 22/12/11 Slab: 24/2/12 Keys: 31/8/12 Re: What colour r your EAVES? External colours 17May 27, 2012 8:47 am SunshineT Dreamer - what colours are you thinking? You wouldn't do all the underside external ceiling and eaves the same colour? The underside of the deck roof is just white I think. So maybe the eaves should be white?! We need to pick a colour for the TOP of the deck roof and we're wanting to update the colours on our old house. Current it has red roof (want Monument), black gutters (fine to stay), black fascia (fine to stay or maybe change to match eaves?), cream eaves (either match the eaves to downpipes etc or just do white like you're doing), cream downpipes (need a touch up so we're tossing up between Classic Cream or Paperbark).
