Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 09, 2008 3:11 pm Thanks to Adelaide's current heat wave, it seems that there will be a delay in any slab activity. As temperatures are forcasted to be in the high 30's
(40 today, and between 37 and 39 for at least the next 9 days...) there will be no slab as the footings contract states that they will not pour concrete in temps over 32 degrees (thats shade temp). I know that this is good for our slab and footings and such, but I want to see something happening. Its been 12 months now since we bought the land and signed the building contract, and I have been eagerly awaiting the time when I too can share pictures of our home being build. Oh well, a few more weeks wont matter... Be sure that I will post plenty of pictures when there is something to show other that a block that has been cut and filled... It is so hot here though! I don't know what the 'official temp' was here today, but we drove past an outside digital thermometer and it registered at 46-degrees! we escaped to the shops. Hard to get energy up to go shopping for kitchen tiles. DH is more than happy about that . Our slab was also delayed due to heat wave prior to Xmas. Never mind it will happen soon. There will always be delays unfortunately <said with gritted teeth whilst waiting for windows grrrrrr>. Its good to hear from fellow builders from the southern end of OZ. Where are you guys building? And with which builders if I may ask? We are building in "Bayswood" at Aldinga Beach. There is lots of activity here at the moment, as everyone in our streets land settled at the same time, there are siteworks and slabs and some frames going up all over the place. We saw one slab recently laid and they have built a little dirt wall around and have filled it up with water, Im guessing so that it does not dry too fast... Chat soon. Chat soon. Wow a little moat .. sounds like an idea. We had a fair bit of rain after they laid our slab but we still have small cracks in the slab. Dont suppose it matters much as most slabs have hairline cracks in them. Hadn't heard of the moat idea tho'. Wonder if it will make a difference. We're building at Mawson Lakes with Seville Homes ... they have been pretty good so far. Hold up with our windows has set us back 3 weeks. Re: Thanks to Adelaide's heat wave, no slab... 6Mar 11, 2008 9:05 am we are building down south as well in paringa views near noarlunga. near work for me which is great. our land doesnt settle until the end of april. expected to move in just before christmas if all goes to plan.

Sure was Leece, I went to the south coast surfing on Monday, and the air temp down there was 26 degrees. Got home - and what was it - 35 degrees still Gotta love that southerly breeze they get down there. Good to hear you enjoyed the aircon - whle you were in it.
