We;ve just been told no bricks til the 22nd. Didn't we get a slab before you? Stevie is never in the office, no one seems to want to answer my questions my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Building Switch 830 home in Meve 9Aug 10, 2011 5:05 pm Sorry Tinks. Thought you would have got yours by now. I think our slabs went down around the same time. I know that because it is not a common brick they only do runs of them as required. Hope bristile dont delay you. Went and had a look at the bricks at your kid's school on the weekend. When I saw them I was not sure about them. But now I have seen them close up on site I am happy with them. Know what you mean about Stevie. I send her emails. Seems to get best response and I think she has looked after us pretty well so far. I had an issue with their drafting. We are having a letterbox and planter box next to our driveway. They drew the plans up with the letterbox at the end away from the driveway instead of beside the drive. Would have meant postie would have to ride his motorbike on the lawn to put letters in letterbox. Not likely!!! Switch wanted to charge me their $750 fee to change it around because we didnt pick it up when we signed off on plans. I complained to Stevie and said they were the ones who drew the thing where nobody would ever put a lettertbox. She came back to me and said they dropped the charge. I assume she pointed out their mistake. Once the bricks arrive you will see progress really quickly I am sure. All the best. No action. I think the bricks are there just to stop the slab from being blown away..... When I went to look at them at the school I was not sure about them but when I saw them at our site I was much happier. Now you have seen them being built and you like them more than the ones at schoool I am a lot happier. After seeing Tinksters bricks and mortar on the weekend I sent an email to builder yesterday asking to see a sample of mortar with bricks to ensure they matched before they commence construction. Got a frantic call this morning, brickie was on site ready to start. Brickie did up a sample section of a few bricks using the mortar they supplied plus another with a chocolate oxide in the mortar to match bricks and he would delay starting one day so we could check it and decide. Really glad he did. They both looked good but going with colour oxide in mortar to match bricks. So they start tomorrow to build the walls. Hopefully will be able to post pictures on the weekend with walls!!!! Hope you get some walls soon, ours are going up so fast, they've pretty much finished the external bricks in a week my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Building Switch 830 home in Meve 16Aug 27, 2011 9:10 pm Yay!! It matches the bricks really well. Yours seems to be going really quickly. Our brickies seem to work slower but I dont mind cos the head brickie seems to be very thorough and meticulous. Walls going up really quickly but some of the bricks are a much lighter shade and do not match in. You can see it with the cut bricks in the picture above. Contacted builder to say we were not happy with it. They have agreed and getting Mildand Brick rep to come out and have a look to see what they can do. Not sure if they can just replace the lighter coloured ones or whether they have to take down and start again!!! Was also mention of rendering it. We don't want that, we went for a good quality distinctive brick so we don't want to hide it behind render. When I spoke to the brickie he said when he first discovered it he contacted the SS and was told to continue on. I cant really imagine the SS saying that without going to site and at least having a look first because if they have to rip down and start again it will cost them. Hope they resolve this ASAP so we dont have more delays. Our ss told us that there is some variation in the brick, but they try to mix it up a little so its not too noticeable, the most stark difference for us is the 1c bricks they use under the windows, which is fine, as it looks like a feature. I love the brick too, which is why i don't want to render the whole house (facade is rendered) We need more pics tim! my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Building Switch 830 home in Meve 20Aug 31, 2011 2:25 pm Tinkster, These are very noticable. The half thickness bricks they use around the bottom and top are the lighter shade as well, I don't mind that becasue as you say they look like a feature provided they are only the top and bottom row or under doors. But the full bricks that are lighter are the problem ones. I have not taken amny more pictures yet becasue I am waiting to find out what they are going to do about it. I might be taking pictures of walls that are going to be knocked down!!! Just hope they work it out soon becasue it is all lost time (and money to them and me as I am paying interest on old and new house).
