Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 26, 2012 2:09 pm Hey guys, just want to get some feed back from people who have got their pools installed. My builder said there could be additional piering required if the pool is too close to the house. I am trying to get the pool installed before the house is built to save some money, does anyone know how far the pool needs to be from the house so the house does not require additional piering? Thanks! Regards, Dean Re: How far does the pool have to be from the house? 2Apr 26, 2012 2:53 pm most builders etc go for 1.5m from boundry and 1.5 off house but normally the distance is determined by the depth of the pool, so if it is 1.7m deep, then the pool needs to be 1.7m from the house. in saying that it all comes down to the engineer and the council as to whether you need extra pilings. another thing is to have the pool close to the alfresco pier so that is the only piling you will need extended. i am going through the same thing right now, got too hard to i designed my house around my pool! Re: How far does the pool have to be from the house? 3Apr 26, 2012 8:05 pm Yeh initially i wanted the pool next to the alfresco but when they told me about the piering I was like ok maybe not. So I decided to go the back corner of the house, its about 5m away from any slab, surely thats far enough clearance? Re: How far does the pool have to be from the house? 4Apr 26, 2012 9:29 pm if you wanted it next to the alfresco then i would ask them to price up the extra piling, where did you want the pool in relation to the alfresco? would the pool be close to the house or a peir of the alfresco (if that makes sense). otherwise 5m is fine, just as long as it is the right distance off a boundary fence as well Re: How far does the pool have to be from the house? 5Apr 27, 2012 7:59 am Mine is 800mm from the slab on 2 sides, it can be as close as you like, just comes down to something called the "angle of repose" ( I think thats what its called) Sort of know how it works but I wouldn't try to explain it, but what it meant was I had to have 1500 piers in my footing so could get the pool as close as I have. I actually wanted it closer unfortunatly the concretors didnt put down the 1800 deep piers I asked for. You normally have to be 1500 away from a sewer or stormwater easement, because the sewer was 2m deep I had to put 3m deep piers on that side of the pool. Re: How far does the pool have to be from the house? 6Apr 27, 2012 9:19 am I am also installing a fiberglass pool, so the closest to the house it would be the alfresco. What is the normal distance you have to be from the fence? We're in Camden Council, is it normally 1.5m? Re: How far does the pool have to be from the house? 7Apr 27, 2012 11:05 am mgilla Mine is 800mm from the slab on 2 sides, it can be as close as you like, just comes down to something called the "angle of repose" ( I think thats what its called) The angle of repose is the right term Its 45 degrees from the base of the footing. So anything within that 45 degree envelope can be affected by the force that is exerted on the footing from the structure. I need this to calculate the length of the jump required so as to not Famingo up and hit the pavement ( Fiamingo up - just like a cockup only bigger ) Disclaimer - Echo does recomend jumping from the roof into a pool , or into anything , use caution people , and dont drink and drown. Re: How far does the pool have to be from the house? 11Apr 29, 2012 9:56 am Our pool is 400mm from our alfresco, (one tile ) we had to get extra piers in our alfresco and had to have them closer together and deeper, our builder just charged us an extra $80 l/m. So maybe $500, we also had the storm water easement at the back of the pool (building in the zone of influence)and had to pay an extra $1800 for deeper piers there, so don't be frightened off thinking it could cost a fortune, in the big picture of what we are paying for our pool it really is minimal cost to get exactly what we want Re: How far does the pool have to be from the house? 12Apr 30, 2012 11:53 am Thanks guys, we're installing a 9x5m pool, initially i wanted next to the alfresco to get that nice look (if you know what i mean) but we probably dont have enough room. So I guess of the house it is then. Re: How far does the pool have to be from the house? 13Apr 30, 2012 4:10 pm you might be suprised at how much it will cost you to put extra concrete peirs in. like some of us said it is worth asking the builder, if you want something done always good to get a price Re: How far does the pool have to be from the house? 14Apr 30, 2012 4:38 pm Are you saying "surprising" as in they will be cheaper than first thought? Re: How far does the pool have to be from the house? 15Apr 30, 2012 10:43 pm Yep that's what he is saying, like I said the piering for us on the alfresco side was less than $500 extra, it was our storm water easement that cost a bit photoimpressions Are you saying "surprising" as in they will be cheaper than first thought? The OP has gone The latch and striker are definitely not aligned but there was no point trying to help the OP understand that. Hence the reason they are no longer with us. 12 5695 Approvals are covered in the cost we are paying to the pool company. The only thing stated in our home build contract for the additional cost is engineering support. … 3 7137 I've just built 3 stairs off a landing out the back and been told by the private certifier I need hand rails sorry tried to attach a pic but couldn't mine don't have sides… 5 5722 |
