Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 20, 2012 10:17 am Hi, Here is the link to our house plans. I am looking at the main bathroom, kitchen and laundry. I really wanted a freestanding bath but dont think there is enough room for it. My compromise is to have the bath moved to under the window but I could do some some suggestions on how to reconfigure it. we have moved the laundry to the other side and the garage is going to be a study as we already have a large separate garage with rear access. We are then making the original study a slightly larger lounge and using the rest of the space for a butlers pantry with sink, bench and open shelving. With that in mind I am wondering if I still need a pull out pantry in the kitchen? I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions, lots of people here with experience. Cheers, http://www.sekisuihouse.com.au/house-de ... -nella/210 Re: Help with house plans: bathroom, kitchen and laundry 2Apr 20, 2012 3:07 pm You could make the study nook your ensuite. Combine it with your WIR....extended out if possible. Then move bed 3 down making the main bathroom bigger. It's a good thing you've got the 2nd garage space as the place appears small on the plans. Re: Help with house plans: bathroom, kitchen and laundry 3Apr 20, 2012 3:25 pm To play around with layouts I suggest going to Reece.com.au. You can put in the measurements of your bathroom and enter products into the plan to play around with layouts. That's what I did with mine. I'm also building with Sekisui and we changed the 3 way bathroom to an all in one so I played on this site till I got the layout I really wanted. Not sure if you'll fit the bath and shower easy along the wall under the window but if you do that, leave the vanity where it is and move the toilet where the shower is. Then have the door open the other way so the toilet is behind the door. If you're not really attached to that linen cupboard you could remove that, then the vanity could sit up against the hallway wall giving more room for the bath. In terms of your kitchen I don't see the need for the pull out pantry. I really like the idea of drawers in kitchens as they are much more user friendly for your plates, saucepans etc. You will never have everything you want in the pull out pantry and will still find yourself going to the butler pantry anyway so why not just have all pantry items in the one place. Hope your build goes well. I look forward to seeing your progress. My thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=55859 First time build = excellent. I have thought about losing the linen cupboard but in such a small house I thought I shouldnt take away storage. And if we have more kids (we have 2) the baby could sleep on the bottom shelf! good tip with the bathroom, I hadn't thought to change the door direction to put the toilet there. What type of upgrades have you chosen? Re: Help with house plans: bathroom, kitchen and laundry 5Apr 20, 2012 5:03 pm Hi Nella, I wouldn't even know where to start in telling you the changes we made at selections. Let's just say there's not much standard selections in our house. We took advantage of the ceaserstone and alfresco package upgrade when we signed so happy with the choices we got there. In terms of your house, I noticed you're laundry looks quite large. Could you possible put a linen cupboard in there? I'm only new to posting so not sure how to do everything yet, but i've posted a copy of our plans today so if you get a chance go and have a look. Maybe you could give me a tip on how you created that link with your plans. I just could not work that out. All I'll say is I hope you're plans and build move along much quicker and smoother than ours have. Cheers. Can't wait to see your updated plans. I have had a play on reece and here is the bathroom layout. any advice. I really like the thought of not seeing the toilet when you open the door. I cannot fit a shower and bath along the window so this is my compromise. http://www.reece.com.au/bathroom_planne ... 129/587648 Re: Help with house plans: bathroom, kitchen and laundry 7Apr 21, 2012 12:07 pm How did you find the reece site. I loved it. I've had a play around with your plan on there myself and come up with the option below. I've changed the bath to a freestanding one (same as what we've chosen for our house) because earlier you mentioned you would like a freestanding bath. Let me know what you think http://www.reece.com.au/bathroom_planner/open/586352/481306 My thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=55859 First time build = excellent. I am still tossing up the freestanding bath or the inlay bath. I just dont know if there is enough room for the freestanding one to clean around. Re: Help with house plans: bathroom, kitchen and laundry 9Apr 22, 2012 10:07 am Yes you might be right about the room around the bath. talk to the builder they might be able to give you better advice there. Glad you like it though. I was concerned that your design would have made it hard to get into the shower My thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=55859 First time build = excellent.
