Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 17, 2012 3:28 pm Hi All, We did our colour selections a few weeks ago and after a few minor changes we happily signed off on everything. I am now having second thoughts about one of the external colours and was hoping for some opinions on the choices. I don’t want to pay a fee to the builder to change something that could look good as it is. I apologise, I don’t have pictures of our external colours but hopefully if I describe it you will get an idea of our colours. (The colours we have chosen are fairly common anyways from what I can tell) Ok, so we currently have: Bricks - Boral Horizon Mocha (Darkish Browny Brick with sort of charcoal flecks through them) Roof Tiles - Boral Macquarie Twilight (Dark almost black) Gutter - Colorbond Monument (Charcoal colour) Fascia - Colorbond Paperbark (Dark Creamy colour) Windows - Merino (Same as Paperbark) Garage Door - Colourbond Monument Now, I am a fan of a dark exterior house, however, I chose the paperbark for the fascia as at the time I felt if we went for the Monument for the Fascia as well that the place might look too dark. I am now questioning this, should I have gone Monument for the fascia also or was the idea to have the paperbark to break up the darkness a good idea. I am just worried that the Monument and the Paperbark will not work together and so I figured the best thing to do was to come and get some opinions from others. I have samples of the 2 colours together and they look good but I am having trouble imaging them together in larger scale. Don’t know if this link to colorbond will work but hopefully it does to see the 2 colours http://www.colorbond.com/residential/gu ... lour-range I understand we all have different tastes, I am just after opinions and hopefully reassurance that the Monument and Paperbark will look good together, I really don’t want to have any regrets. Thanks in advance for your responses Re: External Colours. Help! Having second thoughts 2Apr 18, 2012 9:12 am I think the monument and paperbark will look fine. Your colours are close to my colour scheme, I am having brown bricks with monument gutters and evening haze fascia & garage doors, which is close in colour to paperbark. We are having Gun Metal roof and Anodic off white windows, which is why we have evening haze for the fascia and garage so it will all tie in well together. I also like how the evening haze broke up the darker roof and guttering. As you are having paperbark windows the fascia in paperbark will work well together. The monument gutters will tie in well with the garage. If you had darker windows then maybe the monument fascia. We have not started building yet so no photo's to share. But it all comes down to personal taste. I did up a colour board of my colours to see what combination worked best together. Agree it difficult to imagine with just small samples. When we were trying to work out our colours we also drove around new home estates to see what we liked. Good luck!! We built the Wisdom Majestic 40 - moved in! Having second thoughts 3Apr 18, 2012 10:08 am Hi jpc, We are also having Boral Mocha bricks with charcoal grey roof tiles but have gone with Woodland Grey gutters, fascia and windows. Our garage door will be stained timber look to match the front door. Are you having a painted front door or stained and is there any render or stone to the facade? Also what colour mortar are you having, off white or natural grey and is it flush, raked or rolled? Do you have an elevation or drawing of the house you could post? Mortar colour and finish can make a huge difference to the look of the bricks. Our house isn't finished but I will try to find some pictures of the bricks with Woodland Grey to give you an idea. Re: External Colours. Help! Having second thoughts 4Apr 18, 2012 7:31 pm Thanks for your responses . Onewheel, your colours are quite similar to ours, just that we went for the dark garage door. Mimi, we are having the front door painted in the Monument also to match the garage door. This was another reason why we went for the paperbark fascia as we had everyhing else dark to try and lighten things up a bit. We are having natural rolled mortar, no render or stacked stone. Building with Dennis family homes, we have gone for the classic facade We currently live in a newer estate at the moment and so I am always looking at other peoples houses. I think this was what started me getting worried though as it seems around where we are most people have the same colour gutter and fascia and so I started doubting things. Anyways, im sure it should look fine, just questioning my choices with a few last minute nerves. We are building a second dwelling and are currently selecting window and door frames. We want to blend into the forest and also bring out the stone work and the fake wood… 0 15933 traditional gable roof facade - Have you did the dark and light gray color combination in facade with gray stone in facade… 0 4211 The Dulux colour consultants are awesome.
