Browse Forums Building A New House 20mm engineered stone 2Apr 14, 2012 8:01 am I have 20mm in my laundry and it is fine. We also live in a rental with 20mm as well as an overhang. Again no problems looked fine. My Inlaws have just finished building and used 20mm - MIL preferred the thinner edge over my 80/40mm edges. It looks lovely just not as chunky as my bench. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: 20mm engineered stone 3Apr 14, 2012 8:29 am We are using 20mm in our stone. It looks more modern in my opinion and you see it been used in a lot more displays these days http://lindeman28.blogspot.com - Our building blog Re: 20mm engineered stone 4Apr 14, 2012 7:29 pm i am also inclined towards using 20mm thick stone but my stone mason company is saying that 20mm thick stone might not be good idea for 300 overhang (breakfast bar). He is saying that there should be some additional support under overhang, otherwise 20mm thick stone can break. Don't know how true is that. 20mm engineered stone 5Apr 15, 2012 12:04 am CC101 i am also inclined towards using 20mm thick stone but my stone mason company is saying that 20mm thick stone might not be good idea for 300 overhang (breakfast bar). I'm having 20mm Essa and a 300mm overhang for my 3m breakfast bar! Hope it's not true! Re: 20mm engineered stone 7Apr 15, 2012 6:53 pm I wouldn't go sitting or maybe even leaning on the breakfast bar if it's unsupported 20mm engineered stone if the manufacturer warns against not having such an extension supported. I'm pretty sure our breakfast bar also has a supporting plate (bit of MDF laminated the same as the island cabinet I presume) underneath it. Edit - Some pics showing what I mean: Front on view - goose neck outlet should be in the laundry! Re: 20mm engineered stone 8Apr 17, 2012 12:03 am thanks cmhamilton. I am having stone bench done during the build but not through builder, i am getting that done privately. So don't know whether builder's cabinet maker is suppose to do this support underneath or private stone mason should do. Re: 20mm engineered stone 9Apr 26, 2012 11:52 pm manufacturer is recommending same support as you have cmhamilton under your overhang. Don't know why most of the stone masons don't follow the installation manual. has anyone got any kind of support under 300mm overhang with 20mm stone? Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 16073 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors.
