Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 11, 2012 10:41 pm HI all Our house with Dale Alcock is now up to lock up so its time to start considering the soakwell side of things. Certainly looking for tips and advice on what is the best way to do and what experiences you have had. I have obtained quotes from suppliers / installers and they are reasonable prices but if I did it myself I could save about $1k but then that is my time and effort etc. Our block appears to be very sandy so i would not think that we would have hard stuff to shovel through. One thing I have noticed with the quotes is that they are quoting the poly propelyne boxes rather than the 600mm cement ones that you can buy from bunnings etc and i am only being quoted the 1200mm cement ones which work out to be about double the cost. The websites indicate that the poly propelyne ones are better for draining and not sure if there good rep is only because of the ease of constructing and transporting for the installing company. I have 11 downpipes for a largish roof and as a minimum i would need at least one 132L box per downpipe. Any thoughts? Is the saving worth the pain? I am North of River so if you had any great quotes or can recommend an installer that is appreciated. I am figuring that the right amount of beer and hotdogs could entice enough friends for some assistance with the digging etc? Cheers MC Re: Soakwells - any advice 2Apr 12, 2012 12:22 pm North of what river ? What does Council say ? ( My council demanded 1800 x 1800 mm wells and had to be listed on plan prior to building licence issued and were installed after Pad laid so I could get to the rear of yard with an excavator to install ) Each Council is dfferent .
