Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 11, 2012 2:19 pm Hi everyone, We are in the process of building a new house at Augustine Heights (Brisbane West) which is due to completion at the start of May. We have picked up a few things that will need to be fixed, however would like to get some experts in to really go over the house with the fine-toothed comb. Can anyone recommend a good external consultant to engage to attend the Practical Completion Inspection with us? Thank you Building: Plantation 'Trinity Q1' Due for completion: 8 May 2012 and we can't wait Building Plantation Trinity 'Q1' Due for completion 8 May 2012 Re: Can anyone recommend consultant to attend Final Inspecti 3Apr 11, 2012 3:05 pm Hi Mgilla, This inspection would be carried out with an external consultant who inspects Plantation's (or any other builder's) quality of work to make sure that everything meets the required/relevant Australian Standard and to also pick up on smaller issues which might need to be fixed up (scratches on benches, paint work that needs touching up etc). I have spoken to one or two companies today who do these reports and they advised that they contact the building Site Supervisor directly and arrange the inspection with them. Thanks, Kristy Building Plantation Trinity 'Q1' Due for completion 8 May 2012 Re: Can anyone recommend consultant to attend Final Inspecti 4Apr 19, 2012 2:50 pm Hi Kristabelle, Wow, what a co-incidence, we are also in the process of building Trinity Plantation at Augustine heights. We have chosen Q2 but the site works have not begun yet. How was your experience with Plantation ? Were you able to find an external inspector ? I would love to know who u went with and what your exp was. We are looking to hire the inspector for Frame, Enclosed, Fixing, PCI. Regards, Re: Can anyone recommend consultant to attend Final Inspecti 5Apr 19, 2012 4:15 pm Hi ikaramba, Wow what a small world! We have great taste in houses lol. Augustine Heights is such a gorgeous area too, we can't wait to move in. This is the first time we have built, so I have say that I don't have any basis for comparison in terms of how the building experience is progressing... However we haven't had any major problems with Plantation so far (we are about 3 weeks from completion at this point). I'm sure that like me you have heard this comment a millions times before, but it is so true: it all depends on the Building Supervisor you work with and their Administration Assistant. The Building Supervisor we have is fantastic and gave us his mobile number as soon as we were told that construction was going to commence and told us to contact him directly with any concerns should we wish to. We have found that we deal with him more often than we do the administration assistant. My only criticism would be that attention to detail really seemed to be lacking in the initial 'planning' stages and we really had to double check every re-issue of plans etc. But to be fair I don't think that Plantation are the only company with that issue. The one thing I am a little bit nervous about is the PCI... We have been in the house a few times over the last few weeks for walk-throughs and it seems like a lot of the last minutes works are being rushed, and again, we are noticing that the attention to detail is lacking at times. I realise that all of the issues can be fixed and they certainly aren't major issues (runs in the paint on some walls and doors , tiles that need to be removed as they aren't straight etc), I think I'm just a bit nervous about how good to their work Plantation are about rectifying these things. I think it is a great idea to get the external inspector for each stage of the works and I think it will give you piece of mind knowing that you have someone there to really look at their work from a professional perspective. My partner's father is actually a qualified builder in NSW and he was good enough to offer to come up to carry out the external contractor inspection during our PCI. So unfortunately I can't really help with recommending anyone, however will definitely shoot you a pm should I hear of any good companies over the coming weeks. Good luck with your build process, and again, nice choice of house haha. All the best, Kristy Building: Plantation Trinity Q1 – 3 weeks til handover! I hope and pray that ur PCI goes smoothly and to ur satisfaction. I hope we get a good SS like urs, fingers crossed. Thanks a lot for ur help and well wishes. Regards, Re: Can anyone recommend consultant to attend Final Inspecti 7May 27, 2012 11:05 am I hope everything has gone well with your home. I assume now that you are now in your home and i wanted to ask a few questions if I may. My wife and I are in the process of building the Trinity Q1 and currently we are at the stage where our plans are with council. We are building in the Jimboomba area. Now that you are in your home is there anything you wished you had changed or glad you did change? How did you find the quality of the finished build was is comparable to their displays or is there a significant difference. Is there anything else you can recommend i consider that you wished you new before. thanks. i would suggest nothing is unreasonable for PCI. we did all sorts, including checking the hot water, checking all the GPO's had power, testing that the showers were… 9 98599 The significant date is when receive final payment invoice Check that section of contract Bit of fluff by builders prior to that 1 15837 Hi, I am approaching end of the build.
