Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 11, 2012 10:27 am Has anyone used PGH's Espresso brick, we are currently up to slab stage and and spoke with SS this morning and he mentioned our bricks. I am a little worried about these bricks with the chipping with the black colour on the front the red brick underneath can be easily seen .. HAS ANYONE USED THESE AND ARE YOU HAPPY ??? Don't know what to do????.. Re: Pgh's Espresso Brick - has anyone used 2May 23, 2012 11:47 am Hi, I left a post on your blog in regards to how you are finding the bricks: "I am also building using the PGH Espresso and was wondering just how well your bricks are holding up? Do you have any chips? You wouldn't happen to have a high quality image of the brick work would you? We just had our bricks cleaned and I am concerned about the quality of the finished product." How did yours come up ???? Really would love your feedback Our brickies were great and PGH had delivered a good batch. They were pretty much spot on till today.. I arrived just after the brick cleaner must have left as they are quite wet. I am really picky and I was expecting little blow outs. To be honest I couldn't have a proper look as I got upset and got back into my car and left. The cleaned up great, the majority. There is some large chips on the corner of the front pillar on my garage where the front meets the side - could have been caused from his hose or hes hit it. The colour is missing from the sills underneath my stacker doors at the back. Thats all I good bear to see. I will be going back later to have a proper look. Our SS is very good and we already discussed prior to today that some bricks may need changing. Will keep you posted....... If I have the guts to return. Re: Pgh's Espresso Brick - has anyone used 4May 23, 2012 2:10 pm Hi, We always saw chips and bare brick showing and at first we were a little concerned. By the time they cleaned the top level we had come to the conclusion that the chips were here to stay. We had a few bricks replaced by our SS but since the lower bricks were cleaned, there are so many that just look poor. I'll be posting some pictures on my blog of the cleaned bricks and when you zoom in, you can clearly make out how bad these bricks are. As timing would have it, I just got our update from our SS today and I mentioned the bricks. He advised we would replace any large chips, but any minor ones would not be replaced. he gave me the spiel about how the standards say there is a minimum tolerance for this type of thing. I'd be interested in comparing your brickwork to ours, so if you could post a photo of your cleaned bricks, it would be very appreciated. Cheers. I have loaded the bad and good pics on my blog. Meeting my SS onsite tommorrow morning to have a good look - really need the garage and back door sills fixed at least. Have a look and let me know what you think - also would love to see your pics as well. Re: Pgh's Espresso Brick - has anyone used 6May 23, 2012 7:38 pm Make them dig out the crap ones and replace them. Brickies shouldn't have laid them in the first place. There is no brick that can not be replaced unless it's on the inside of a pier lol Re: Pgh's Espresso Brick - has anyone used 7May 23, 2012 7:43 pm Vess - our brickys were fantastic, they were spot on and threw out heaps. Our builder had to reorder 3 more pallets.. This damage was all caused by the brick cleaner. Blasting them with water and acid but hey what do they care , they don't have to fix them Re: Pgh's Espresso Brick - has anyone used 8May 23, 2012 9:34 pm That was my fear of using that PGH range, the only reason that we went to full color so if they chip at construction or down the track you wont notice I hope they fix up the bad ones. I spoke to a friend at who has moved into his place and he said the house 2 doors down used 2 or 3 pallets of bricks just to do 2 piers in the front as the brickies just kept tossing them Re: Pgh's Espresso Brick - has anyone used 9May 24, 2012 8:53 am My brickies threw a lot out, but they still ended up putting in quite a few bad ones. We've already had about 30 bricks replaced BEFORE our lower bricks were cleaned. Now I see a lot more issues. I went back yesterday afternoon and they do look awesome from distance, and even when I get close they look ok. Not as bad as I first though - but still not over the moon.
